Forums - Microsoft - Remedy:'Alan Wake is Xbox 360 exclusive' (PC version shelved indefinitely)

I love this... ps3 and PC fans have been saying for ages that the 360 has no real exclusives as everything is coming out on PC too. Then, as soon as one is made a 360 exclusive, everyone starts complaining about how Microsoft is ignoring their other platform - seriously, they can't win. As has been said, most 360 console exclusives are going to the Windows platform anyway, so I personally don't see what the problem is if they want to make an exclusive out of the game.

You never know, if sales are good on the 360 it will probably be ported to the PC anyway as its in Microsoft's best interest to do so. They, more than anyone don't want to see windows as a gaming platform die as its one of the reasons that Windows as an OS stands out above the rest.

Shio, we have gone over this time and time again. CoD4 sold more on 360. Please prove me otherwise with hard facts. I can provide a link with a company exec saying that 360 sold more. Can you prove otherwise?

And please do not bring estimated Steam numbers into this, because those lists are worthless without having data to back them up. I could just as easily say that since 1 of the XB Community games has been in the top 10 every week, that it is selling like gangbusters, but that is obviously not the case.

PC gaming is dead confirmed. Who woulda thunk MS would be the ones to do it though?

Maybe they aren't making much money off of PC gaming anymore. Either way its good that they are doing that.

PC gaming can go to hell for all i care, way to much hassle to make it even remotly worth it.

PC gaming has been growing really fast, with over 300 millions online PC gamers today. PC gaming is stronger than ever, and many experts/analysts think PC gaming will kill Console gaming, especially with the coming of Onlive and Gaikai.

Well if PC gaming can become easy and streamless like consoles i'd bite, but until then it can go f itself.

And console gaming is growing too.

Does the 300 million include the people that play flash games and such, cause they should only include people that actually have games that can be bought.

I think PC gaming is probably more like 200 million total at the most.  I'm not gonna count the people that play minesweeper or free games online.  I also think their are more console gamers than PC gamers.

I will go ahead and post my findings:

As of June 3, 2008 it had sold 10 million copies with the 360 version being the most successful.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13772_3-9959146-52.html?tag=nefd.top

As of May 7, 2009 it had sold 13 million copies.

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=23536

Going by VGChartz data:

7,550,316 - 360
4,390,707 - PS3

360/PS3 total = 11,941,023

Thus PC sales are at a max of: 2,058,976 (using 13,999,999 since the breifing said over 13 million)

You can't possibly say that the sales that the company mentioned did not include DD.  I think this pretty much proves the case.

It seems that the old 3d accellerated desktop single player type games for the PC are dying. Whats left really are online games, cheap games and games created out of other games and distributed for free (modding). Its not to say that the PC as a platform is dying but excessive piracy and escalating costs close some doors as other doors open.

Games like Fallout 3, Alan Wake and other single player driven blockbuster games only really exist now because of consoles. Look at the top 20 charts, they are dominated by older games which are cheaper and can run on any computer. Computers themselves aren't getting any faster in general, they are getting cheaper to meet the needs of your typical user. Gaming and general useage have gone their seperate ways, the ability to play 3d games no longer confers any real benefit to general computer useage, so playing games on the PC for most people isn't relatively free anymore because theres no need to keep an up to date PC for most people.

Tease.

Looks like 360 has a "Real exclusive" now.

This game is gonna be amazing.

Finally...I`m tired of 360/Pc versions.

Good news for 360 owners and,if anybody wants to play Alan Wake, they should buy a cheap 360 and enjoy the exclusive games. What`s wrong with that? It was about time MS stopped supporting the Pc with it`s high piracy rate.

And if someone is offended by this decision, then you know how I feel when I buy a 360 game while many people download the Pc version of the game using torrent sites.

What matters are the sales, and if Alan Wake sold more on PC+Xbox360 than just X360, then your argument is pointless. I can assure you that if Alan Wake, like most good games, were to be released in both platforms at the same time, it would very likely sell more on PC.

lol just no

I can't think of a good shooter that sold more on Xbox 360 than on PC, that was released on both at same time...

CoD4 - we had this discussion before and you claimed that CoD4 sold 10 million on the PC, which is just not true. (Activision said so, NPD has CoD4 on PC at 900k etc)

Same goes for CoD WaW.

And Left 4 Dead. Gabe Newell said in June that there is a L4D community of 3 million players (Check: http://kotaku.com/5286185/valve-responds-to-left-4-dead-2-boycott-vows-support-for-original ) according to VGC Left 4 Dead on Xbox360 made about 2 million of those 3 million. (Check: http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Left+4+Dead+-+X360&reg2=All&game2=&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=100 )

Bioshock - Take Two said December 07 that Bioshock sold 2 million copies. (Check: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3165101 )
According to VGC Data the Xbox360 version sold about 1.4 million in December 07. (Check http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Bioshock+-+X360&reg2=All&game2=&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=100 ) About 19 weeks after release (Release in July , sales till mid December)

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Nobodoy sees the irony of this? Microsoft said they entered the console market to stop sony from hurting there "PC" gaming market, and now they are hurting there own PC market..

How ironic
