Forums - Sony - World of Warcraft lead devs working on PS3 MMO?

http://kotaku.com/gaming/industry/ncsoft-grabs-dev-team-307196.php

This is interesting. NCSoft is tied into an exlusivity deal with Sony and are producing several games for the PS3. Now they have just made a deal with Carbine studios (founded by some of the lead devs for WoW) to make a MMO. Will certainly be keeping an eye on this.

Sounds interesting. I don't really get into RPGs, though.

Interesting to say the least... However, no matter how good it is, I will not buy ANY MMO's!

I lost over 2 years to World of Warcrack. Made great friends in the game and did accomplish alot in the game, but nothing to show for it in the real world except for weight gain and a complete loss of a social life. Work for 8-9 hours a day, raid for 4-5 hours a night, sleep, and repeat.

My pokemon brings all the nerds to the yard. And they're like, "You wanna trade cards?" Damn right, I wanna trade cards. I'll trade this, but not my charizard.

World of Warcraft?

what is that?

I am WEEzY. You can suck my Nintendo loving BALLS!

Yep, quite possible. We'll see what happens as time goes on.

I saw this today and thought the same thing.

To be blunt, I doubt it. I don't see the long-term viability of a console MMO, especially one developed by sesterners. It wouldn't be that popular in Japan and all western MMO players are PC-based, as are other MMO junkies like Koreans.

They might be doing something different though and not a straight MMO.

See, the funny thing for me is that I started playing WoW to save my social life.

You see, I'd get together with my buddies and they'd spend three damn hours talking about WoW. I could hardly even relate to them anymore unless I started playing, so they pooled money and bought me the game for my birthday.

And since then, I meet new people and we talk about WoW, as easy a hook to break the ice in nerdy circles as professional sports is for other people. Yep, I knows me a lot of nerds.

I definately agree that it swallows lives worse than other games, though I still consider it better than television. Once WoW withers away, I don't intend to ever start playing another MMO. Of course, I never intended to play WoW, either...

Same... we need a WoW 12 step program somewhere. I'm glad I finally managed to quit but that game really almost ruined my life. Broke up with a girlfriend of 3 years (got back together later), gained tons of weight, grades dropped, I performed poorly at work, and I lost touch with a lot of friends. Thankfully almost all of those negative effects have been reversed, but that game is a monstrosity.

I would be curious to see what exactly the negative effects are for those who have been playing WoW since launch and their physical condition then, vs now. Especially if they didn't play MMO's before.

I was lucky, the expansion burnt me out rather fast and I was able to step away from the game and after I had my first weekend away from the game, I went out with a bunch of my friends and found some female fun that night. Ever since then, my priorities changed, I remembered that I really liked getting laid. Before it was more of a afterthought.
