Well before there was much less communication available, so u could only listen to what the huge marketers/corporations fed u.

Now with the internet widely available, u can listen to whatever the hell u want. Everyone has different tastes & through the internet, people can discover the music that's for them.

I feel this is the reason we don't have that ONE huge star that everybody loves Everyone still loves music, they just have more of a choice of what to listen to now.

Around the Network

what about Clapton? Bruce Springsteen? Prince? There are megastars still out there.

I'd be hard pressed to find a megastar that came from tne 90's or 2000's, but I think its too soon to tell about some of them.

I really like Chris Cornell, but I wouldn't consider him to be along the same lines, popularitywise, as Bono or something (even though I hate Bono).

You know come to think of it, I think MJ might be the last super huge megastar to have walked on the earth. Besides U2, I don't know if I can name an act, that came after MJ, to be as huge.

Wait... shouldn't we add Freddy Mercury there? While he kicked off the 80's him and Queen were already revolutionizing in the 70's. Madonna is definatly a 90's is she ever bites the dust (oh smooth pun!). I think she'll be conserved so well by plastic she will outlive us all - show must go on you know (and again!).

The 2000's are nearly over... do we even have a musician of such a calibre?

well Queen/Madonna/MJ were all products of the 80's, so I say out of the 3, MJ was the biggest.

Ok, here are some I believe might have the potential to be established megastars:

Mariah Carey and Beyonce

Both are very talented, and at least with Beyonce, she is promoted probably better than anyone else. Jay Z really knows how to produce!
