There's a discussion thread about this but I felt that I had to create a new thread to expose my theory.

Wii Fit won't surpass PS3 because Wii Fit Plus will kill it's momentum, while I don't believe it will be as huge as the first one (just like what happened with Brain Trainning - 17.5 million - and Brain Trainning 2 - 13.9 million)

While the Brand Wii Fit itself won't be able to reach PS3 numbers, the Balance Board itself will, because the added sales of the two games will certainly overtake PS3.

It depends how much they ship. Retailers will probably drop the price of WiiFit when WiiFitPlus arrives, so it is guaranteed to sell its whole shipment in the short term.

Yeah but don't forget that PS3 is a console and Wii Fit a game. PS3 will be selling through 2013, and wii fit most likely won't...

I think I agree.... taking just the last weeks data and doing a simple extrapolation it would take over 20 weeks for Wii Fit to catch up, but Wii Fit is slowing a bit faster, and won't have the same percentage boost for Christmas.... so for it to pass the PS3 it would need to continue the kind of sales it has now after Christmas (with the PS3 back to the current level too)

What does it really matter? It's a game.

a large part of the people that will buy wii fit plus already have wii fit and will not buy the balance board again. We're looking at 30-40 million for the balance board unless there is another killer app besides wii fit coming out. PS3 is probably gonna be more like 40-50 million so i don't think the balance board will pass it.
