Forums - Sony - Rest easy, rocketpig ... Sony's got you covered + Juicy Info

I know how much you (rocketpig) dislike that games on the PS3 don't support 1080i and they usually get downscaled to 480p.

Well, Uncharted is another story, and it should make you happy.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/10/03/uncharted-drakes-fortune-update/

In this entry, Naughty Dog President Evan Wells reveals some VERY interesting tidbits:

Uncharted demo for PSN:

"Yes, we will be creating a downloadable demo for the PSN. We don’t have a final date on when it will be up, but it will be before our release date."

UK Release Date and Multiplayer comment:

"In regards to the UK release date, I believe its December 7th. We’re doing simultaneous localization in 13 languages (most, if not all, of which will be in the US version) and should be released in all territories within 3 weeks of each other.

"As for multiplayer, we opted to stick to making the most compelling single player game possible this time. But there is a lot of game there and some pretty good replay value with multiple difficulty levels, hidden treasures, medal points, and some really cool unlockables."

Regards to Display output and FPS:

"Hey guys, I appreciate all of these comments. And in fact, you have just helped us out immensely. I wasn’t fully aware of how important it was for us to support 1080i. Up until earlier today we were only supporting 720p (and SD of course) but reading through these comments, it was brought to my attention the number of people who had HDTV’s but would not be able to experience Uncharted in high-def. So we immediately went to work and I’m pleased to announce here, for the first time, that we have now implemented 1080 support! Thanks for pointing this out to us, so now even more people will get to enjoy Uncharted the way it was meant to be… in glorious high definition!"

"It will play in 1080p but it’s software scaled to help out those with 1080i sets, so if you have a 1080p TV you’ll still want to play it in 720p (which it will default to).

"And yes, our game runs at 30FPS."

Great stuff! Looking forward to Uncharted's release.

Even though I'm thinking of buying a plasma in the next month. :D

I'm really looking forward to this game.

sounds cool. But why is he stoked about 30FPS. Isn't that kinda bad. Wouldn't it be worth bragging if it were 60FPS. I am not trying to be a troll if that is how you take it, just pointing out something that seemed odd to me. Either way, glad ND has caught on to something too many other devs seem to be ignoring.

30fps are not as bad as they would be on another game (you know which one).

30 here are just fine, but he was like "yeah, I'm guilty, it runs at 30fps"

Isn't 1080i supposed to look worse than 720p anyway? :P

If they keep it steady at 30fps, it will be just fine; and I wouldn't care that much about 1080 as my TV only supports 720p max.

Not if your TV only displays 1080i or 480p, then it is a lot better than 720p.

I think based on your tv size 720p usually looks the same if not better than 1080i.

A solid 30 FPS is good, 60 is of course better but it does not really make a big difference in the game.  RFoM runs at a steady 30fps and the game is very smooth.  In racing games i would assume the higher framrate would make it much better, compared to an action/adventure game.  In the EA madden game with the 30 fps difference there is almost no difference in the gameplay.

Yeah, my older generation HDTV down here at school can only do 1080i, so this is very good news. Naughty Dog are my heroes.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S.
