Bruno Sued By (Former) Terrorist

Just because
Bruno is out in the theaters now doesn't mean that the controversy surrounding it is going to end any time soon. The latest: a "terrorist" who was interviewed by Bruno islooking for damages. Legal damages, that is.

It's a scenario that Sacha Baron Cohen had anticipated with some trepidation on his rare out-of-character appearancewith David Letterman last week. After describing all the hoops he had to jump through to set up the first ever real interview between a comedian and a terrorist, he commented that this was one victim he really didn't want to see his movie.

Whether Ayman Abu Aita, labeled as a terrorist from the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade inBruno, has actually seen the movie is still unclear. But he has definitely heard about it now, and he's furious at the way he was depicted. Apparently part of his complaint is that he is not, as Bruno implies, a terrorist. At least, not anymore. He says he quit that group a couple of years ago.

To be fair, if he really were the terrorist he's made out to be, would Bruno have survived suggesting that "... your King Osama looks like a kind of dirty wizard or a homeless Santa"?

How can one be a 'former' terrorist, it's like digging half a hole.

^He use to blow up himself, but decided that it hurts too much

lol, no you guys are missing the point.

He did not say he used to be a terrorist, instead we, the west, say that the "Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade" is a terrorist org and therefore anyone in it is a terrorist. He merely said he is has not been part of that group. The article is then adding its own ideas that he is no longer a terrorist.

Kinda stupid really.

However, the overall story is pretty funny. Haven't seen the movie, but I would suspect that if this guy was a 'terrorist' at any given point of his life he would have probably killed bruno for being gay and talking ish about Bin Laden, etc. He probably has some ability to sue if he is clearly being portrayed as something he is not.

That's what I like about that guy. He takes a lot of risks in his job with his very controversial characters.

A terrorist to one group is a freedom fighter in another. Basically, he and those in that group wouldn't refer to themselves as terrorists.
