Forums - Gaming - Reasons to own all three consoles plus a nice PC

With all the negativity and console warz BS going around (those dern mods really need to do something about all the fanboys =/), I decided to make a thread with a more positive tone than most.  In this thread, I list various reasons why every console and a PC make an excellent choice for any gamer.

What reasons could those be?  The games!  Or rather, the developers behind the games.

Reasons to own a Wii:

  • EAD Group 3 - The Legend of Zelda!  AKA the greatest franchise of all time!  If you choose to disagree, I'll hate you with the fire of a thousand suns!

  • EAD Group 4 - They made Super Mario Galaxy!  And they're the team behind all future Super Mario installments!  I can't say for certain whether they've had heavy involvement with past Super Mario titles, but I'm sure that they did.  Either way, Super Mario!  'Nuff said!

  • EAD Group 1 - Mario Kart.  The series is the epitome of cart racing, and has been standard bearer of the genre for quite some time now.  It's also easily my favorite racing series.
  • Intelligent Systems - Paper Mario and Fire Emblem.  Mmm.
  • Retro Studios - I was never really captivated by the Metriod Prime series, but I can certainly recognize the quality of the trilogy. The series has almost a Zelda-like atmosphere to it, and the games look and play great.

If you don't like the work of at least two of these studios, you probably have horrible taste, and shouldn't be respected as a gamer. :P

Reasons to own a ps3:

  • Team ICO - My favorite development team employed by Sony, and the team behind two of the most unique titles of last gen - Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.  They are masters of conveying emotion through gameplay.
  • Naughty Dog - I enjoyed Jak & Daxter last gen, but Uncharted took me for a ride I never expected.  Uncharted 2 looks to improve upon its predecessor in every way, plus it adds cooperative and competitive multiplayer!
  • Geurrilla Games - Geurrilla Games may have had a rocky past, but the fact is Killzone 2 rocked, and given the studio's inherent talent combined with their position within Sony and their association with other internal developers (like the above and below), I'm sure their future titles will shine with a similar quality.  I personally *love* Killzone 2's objective-based multiplayer.  If only the DLC wasn't so friggin' expensive!
  • Sony Santa Monica - The God of War series grabs you by the balls and takes you for one hell of an epic ride, playing the role of Kratos, a guy wronged by the gods.  God of War III is looking to end the tale of kratos through a mix of gameplay and story elements that are bigger, badder, and bloodier than ever.
  • Polyphony Digital - I've never been much of a racing sim fan, but you have to give credit where credit is due.  The graphical prowess and sheer breadth of content found in each Gran Turismo title is astounding.  If only they could get rid of the bumper car physics!  GT5, bring it!  By it I mean damage!

If you don't like the work of at least two of these studios, you probably have horrible taste, and shouldn't be respected as a gamer. :P

Reasons to own a 360:

  • Lionhead - Ol' Molyneux may talk a lot of smack, but he makes some damn good games in the end.  Black & White and Fable are two outstanding franchises. Of course, the former is on PC, but it looks like Lionhead are 360 exclusive from this point out.
  • Bungie - Halo 3 may not have been that big of a step up from its predecessors, but it was building on such an outstanding base that it didn't even matter.  The entire trilogy is great, and Halo 3's multiplayer modes mixed with Forge keep hundreds of thousands playing to this very day.
  • Turn 10 - Flipping cars in my racing sims? Oh shi... !  Forza 2 was great, and Forza 3 looks fantastic.  There's no denying that!
  • Rare - This studio can't help but make every game a ball o' fun.  Banjo may have received mixed reviews, but I believe it was a sorely misunderstood game.  I think the game's a blast, and people were just pissy it wasn't a platformer.

If you don't like the work of at least two of these studios, you probably have horrible taste, and shouldn't be respected as a gamer. :P

Reasons to own a PC:

  • Blizzard Entertainment - I may loathe World of Warcraft, but apparently 10 million people love it enough to fork over $15 a month for it.  And even though Warcraft in general isn't that great (plz don't hurt me!), the amazing Starcraft and Diablo franchises more than make up for it.  Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 are looking hawt.

  • Chris Taylor - Total Annihilation was revolutionary back in its day, and Supreme Commander brought back the spirit of its predecessor in full force, bringing an unprecedented sense of scale to the RTS genre.  I'm avidly awaiting the release of Supreme Commander 2, and it is *the* reason I'm upgrading my PC this October.

  • Will Wright - The mastermind behind the likes of SimCity, the Sims, and Spore is enough reason alone to keep a nice PC in the house.  You always know another great game from Will Wright is on the way.  Roll on SimCity 5!
  • Creative Assembly -  Just mentioning the words "Total War" probably says enough.  This amazing hyrbid of RTS and TBS is enough to keep any strategy fan entertained for months.  Give me a Shogun remake, please!!  Samurai ftw!
  • Valve - Valve games should be played on PC.  That is all.  Okay, it's not all.  There's also Garry's Mod, and countless other amazing Source mods that are only available on PC.  There's also Steam, which is far and away the best online gaming service available.

If you don't like the work of at least two of these studios, you probably have horrible taste, and shouldn't be respected as a gamer. :P
_______________________________________

The aforementioned studios produce excellent titles that often stand at (or near) the forefront of their respecitve genres, and the studios provide substantial exclusive content and support for their respective platforms.  The above developers are *the* reasons to own all three home consoles and a nice PC.

Even if you choose not to own all four platforms for whatever reason (indeed, owning all four can be quite an expense), there is no denying that each is a great choice in and of itself, and there is no reason whatsoever for all the hate that is so often spewed on these forums.

I think theres no reason for me to be nice to you in this thread. The Xbox 360 reality distortion field is causing me to want to create mayhem and chaos. Xbox Live, we Live for the 360, we die for the 360.

Tease.

I would've included Media Molecule in the OP, as LBP is my favorite game so far this gen, and one of the highest rated games released this gen, but 1. they've only released one game so far, and 2. they may not be associated with Sony in the future. While my love for the studio is vast, and I don't doubt their future success, I don't think they deserved to be listed at this point in time.

Also, while Bungie is now a third party studio like Media Molecule, I still felt they deserved to be included, because 1. I don't see why they would end their current relationship with Microsoft, and 2. Microsoft has the right of first refusal on all of Bungie's future projects, as far as I'm aware. They're as first party you can get without being a fully owned subsidiary. When buying an MS console, you can always expect more Bungie titles.

Well I own all 3 but not a gaming PC. Do not play PC games.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention here that I bought a PS3. Guess I'm not so vein like others to make sure everyone knows what I buy at all times of the day to bring attention to myself haha.

You said Warcraft isn't that great. I will still hurt you.

*runs*

Wow it feels so good to see a postive thread, what a nice fresh breath of air.  I agree those are all really good reasons to own each systems.

Well i'm off, wish me luck in these rank forums that we have had of late *puts on his gas mask, and trails off into the sunset*

YAY !

I don't own a wii... There is one sitting on our living room which belongs to my mate but I never play it. I don't know, I think I'm too much of a shallow and soulless graphic whore... other than that I own a 'Crysis' gaming PC, and the PS360 and enjoy gaming on all 3 platform.

...

...But I didn't like LBP other than as a party game...
