Forums - Sony - Seven improvements Resistance 3 needs.

Alot of people including me were hyped for Resistance 2. Many people thought it would be the best shooter in 2008 surpassing Gears 2 and Cod4. But when it came out many fans were dissapionted. The story was bad and boring at times, the multiplayer was very hectic and the co-op had no real story. Here are seven things that could make Resistance 3 a great game:

1. Larger variety of guns and weapon upgrades. This is important considering that there was only one type of gun for each catogery (e.g only one sniper). Also the weapons are too damn weak. The weapon effects also suck. That needs to be sorted out.

2. A much better story. The story is what dissapointed many. There was no likable character, the voice acting sucked and the cutscenes were boring. They didnt have the feel that Resistance 1 had. The story was kinda stupid considering you had to take some drug and had only 18 ours to live. Most of it didnt make sense.

3. Make the characters have emotions and personalities. The characters in Resistance 2 acted like cavemen. There was usually no emotion at all. Whenever a charater died no one gave a damn. Making the characters have strong emotions (which I admit is a hard thing to do in FPS) is an important way to make the story good. Half-Life, Halo and even Killzone 2 had serious characters but not Resistance 2 so there are no excuses.

4. Online characters have too much life. The characters online take ages to kill unless you have a grenade launcher. Sometimes it would take upto a full clip to kill one person. This means that your opponent could easily get away or one of his allies could come out of no where while its taking you ages to kill anyone. The reason many people enjoy Halo 3 and CoD is because the online charaters have a small amount of life and dont take forever to kill.

5. Online multiplayer is too chaotic at times. Its quality over quantity. No one enjoys a chaotic battle so either lower the amount of people online or make the whole thing fair.

6. Add proper customization to both guns and and your character. The customization in Resistance 2 is lame. You get one piece of "clothing" every few levels which sucks and dont vary much. Also adding customization to guns so people actually feels like your getting rewarded.

7. Add proper story online and offline co-op. The 8 player online player co-op was fun but had no real story. It was just going to a large base and killing 100s of enemies. And I seriously dont know why they decided to take offline story co-op out. That was one of my favorite features in Resistance 1.

I know there is stuff that I havent covered like more polish, more relistic graphics etc etc, but I usually dont go that far because thats just common sense stuff. Anyways there is great potential for the Resistance series and I wonder why Insomniac, great developers didnt make Resistance 2 a great game. Not to mention that Ratchet and Clank is my favorite platforming series. So Insomniac, MAKE IT HAPPEN.

I agree that Resistance 1 was better than 2 in many respects but i think they progressed the game in a lot of the right directions in the second one, it was just a lot of the things in the 1st one that were removed (such as the massive weapon reels that you had, the commentary for the game which set it apart from the other FPS on the market and also the enjoyability of it NOT being set in the US or with only american speaking soldiers... Yawn) so it is a bit of a yin and yang game tbh!

Nice improvment list. I couldnt have said it better myself, offline co op was brilliant and yet they took this feature out, talk about going backwards...

Also Resistance 1 was exceptional, people had too high an expectation for 2 thats perhaps why people dont think it was as good. Also the first level in RFOM1 was in my home city

Yes because everyone was hearing good news about it like 60 player online matches and 8 player online co-op. But Insomniac approached it in the wrong way.

So basically...almost everything?

The storyline makes perfect sense...I have a hard time believing people who rant the storyline actually know whats going on after reading Kantor's Resistance 2 review on this site my point was proven
I do agree Insomniac needs to add more variety to Resistance 3

Yeah i know what you mean! Here's hoping that the 3rd one is going to take the game back to basics and also keep the series alive with being fresh! I have much trust in Insomniac (the quality of the Ratchet and Clank games speak for them in so many ways) so i await this game with muchos anticipation lol

Well the online 8 player co-op was fun and probaly the best part of the game.
