Forums - General - Why do people like Anime so much?

I guess Anime is alright in it's own right, but I just don't see why people are so obsessed with it. I hear the stories are good, but I have trouble sitting through any anime without getting bored. And no, I'm not a typical American who likes nothing but explosions I just like realism and live action movement in shows and movies that I watch.

I'm afraid I don't see the art in Anime at all. I mean, seeing girls get all excited over animated boys with spiky hair is starting to get to me. My ex girlfriend is into it as well. I'm not trying to sound bias, but what is the big attraction? I don't hate all cartoons. I just don't like how there is little movement in cartoons. That's why I like comedy cartoons like The Simpsons, because there's humor to back up the little movement. Anyway, I'm getting a little off topic. So tell me why everyone likes Anime so much. Discuss.

the simpsons ain't funny, family guy is and south park, but i never laughed about anything the simpson.

anime is amazing mainly because of everything, there are so much art suited for everyone, if you like action with big swords and explosion theres something for thar, if you like psychothrillers theres some for that, if you like emotional storys there also for that, if you are a perverted pedo who enjoys watching a minor boyo get harrased by an old man theres also a amrket for that.

the stories and the emotion put on them are downright believable, since after all japanes treat manga and anime as if they were their bestsellers and hollywood blockbusters.

as i said before, theres space for everyone, there are the crappy action shonen that are so popular here in the west(bleach, inuyasha, buso renkin) there are the shoujo and maho shoujo for girls, theres also the super cute(and perverted) shonen ai, and the list can go on without me even touching half of the variety in both anime and manga.

I guess you're right. I just like live action a little better, though, as it's more believable and the action can be expressed better. I will say, out of all the animes that I've watched, Death Note has stuck out the most to me. I like the deepness of the story more than any of the action packed animes out there.

The same reason i like certain tv shows, or movies or video games. When I'm looking for an emotional story with great characters, I find me myself more entertained by anime than anything else.

4 ≈ One

I've been watching anime for so long, I don't actually care much whether I'm watching anime or live action as long as I like the show.

There is one thing I like about anime series though, and that's the continuity between the (relatively) short episodes. A lot of live action series (or cartoons for that matter), especially western ones, are purely episodic or at most having 2-3 episodes stories. I like having a long series (but not too long, 26eps is perfect, sometimes 13 is enough), with connected episodes and with a single major plot that has the time to develop. I'm actually finding myself enjoying j-drama for that reason (coupled with the fact that I like mini series rather than countless seasons).

I love Anime shows with good plots. but that goes for any show that I watch, not just Anime.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

I have never liked anime, I love Howls Moving Castle and Akira, but nothing else. I'm an animator myself and everyone finds it hard to believe that I don't "get" anime.

A good balance of action and stupid humor in my favorite animes, others are just hilarious (like Bo Bo Bo), and others just stick like glue to a compelling narrative.

The best animes, like One Piece, can blend the idiocy and serious action together almost melodiously.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Ghost in the Shell is my favorite anime. I like it because it's not idiotic in the way other animes are - it isn't trying to be cute. There's no little boys or girls doing the save the world shit. No boys with spiky hair. None of that homo shit.

Ghost in the Shell is one of the worst anime I've ever seen because the characters are poor, the writers mistake complexity for depth, and the pacing of the show is downright lethargic.

But that's the beauty of anime.  There's something for everyone.  It's so diverse that as long as you embrace the medium, you will find something you enjoy.
