What's ironic is that you put this in a Microsoft forum while Sony funded District 9...

Did you have a problem understanding the accents in D9?

no, i just thought it was too out there and tongue in cheek to be taken seriously, but too serious to be a comedy.  Thought the main character wasn't very good and his relationship with the other human characters was too shallow, didn't reallly care about them.  The relationship with the main character and the one alien and boy was the only one that was well defined, but that started pretty late in the movie.  I didn't expect so many people to like it after watching it, guess it reviewed better than i expected.

Fox just has to be kicking themselves for not giving the go ahead for the Halo movie. Based on District 9, a halo movie directed by Neill would have easily done $400 million world-wide, if not more.

BTW, the movie made 37 mil over the weekend.

Good for them then, turning a profit in the first week of release.  I'll go see it sometime this week.

Well, that is how much total the take was at the box offices.  Depending on what the distribution deals were, theatres will be taking a nice slice of this.  But it most definitely will be making quite a profit.  Especially when you look at DVD, OnDemand, and BluRay sales.  This will be quite the cash cow.
