Forums - Sales - Does anyone still believe in a major turnaround this gen?

@PS3Beats360.

You are absolutely and positively smoking crack. There's a difference between blind fanboy and supporter of a brand, please recognize the difference.

Microsoft and Nintendo know how to attract gamers to their products this generation. They will do it the rest of this year, all of next year, and pretty much up until the time when they are ready to release a new system. As it stands, so far this summer we haven't seen a single week of PS3 edging the 360, and this is at a time when Microsoft's products naturally start to decline.

PS3 slim is not going to do /a damn thing/ to PS3 sales. I'm sorry if you think that the only reason why millions of gamers have not picked the system up yet, but it probably lacks dead last next to "I think Bill Gates is awesome". The truth of the matter is that no game in Sony's arsenal really entices people in the USA as much as Halo and Gears of War do. I hate to reduce strong North American sales to those two games, but its very symbolic for how we feel about video games. I am currently discounting Japan because the country seems to be in a portable/Wii trend right now, and now that FF13 is multi-platform, it levels the playing field next year when that is released.

Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, Ratchet and Clank, and Grand Tourismo 5 are all niche games. None of them, as much as people hate to hear this, are system sellers. Ask a mother/father down the street if they are more likely to buy a PS3 if Heavy Rain comes out.
Their response?

"Why would it matter if it rained as to whether or not I buy the system. You are wierd, please leave".

The fanboys are all tapped out. Now you need to rely on attracting the casual gamers, the moms and pops of the world, the kid that probably makes 200 bucks a month mowing lawns/getting an allowance. Each system needs to prove to new arrivals why theirs is the best. And a skinny 300 dollar PS3 is still cheaper than Xbox 360 Arcade. Hard Drive or not, that's not the bottom line.

I think an FYI is in order here too. With the generation expected to last longer than the previous one Microsoft can afford to subsidise the consoles being sold now as if they were launch units. Just because the price is OMG $200 and O dear $300 doesn't mean than they cannot slash the cost of their console still further. They make a hell of a lot of money on Xbox Live. They stated that they broke even on the Arcade with accessories and from all accounts the Premium and Elite consoles are profitable from the moment they leave the store. They have every incentive to increase sales still further and they have the ability to match any price cut Sony makes on the PS3 they could possibly even match dollar for dollar.

Tease.

I really don't think any of those franchises will sell what they are used to selling on the ps2.

MGS and R&C sold pretty much the same amount as what they did on Ps2.

Killzone has DOUBLED what it sold on Ps2.

But none of those series ever saw FF or GT type numbers.  The numbers people seem confident will pull the PS3 out of last place in to second (rediculous) or first (insultingly rediculous)

Its way too late....

We'll probably see a new Xbox next year and the others to follow.

Helloneath all you said is PS3 has more value.

Ok PS3 has more value but yet it was ousold by the Xbox 360 by only a $100 price difference, especally when MGS4 was released.

I dont get you,you said align the launches so i do,from Nov. 11 2006 untill now Xbox 360 has been outselling the PS3,now you say its not fair? Fair doset count in a console WAR,PS3 is a better value than the 360 is,but thats not fair.

You have some serious reading comprehension problems man. Align the launches as in look at Ps3s sales from launch til now (2.5 years) and look at 360s sales in it's first 2.5 years. Just as the chart I posted did. And Ps3 is selling BETTER than 360.

Ps3 has more value but the casual consumer doesnt take time to look into that. When a parent buys their kid a console for xmas, they have no idea what value there is. They just see the base price and that's it.

The seventh generation is almost over, there isn't any time for a major turnaround.

ummmm it doesn't work like that.  You would have a fair point if the PS3 has outsold the 360 on a continual basis since its launch but it hasn't.  The 360 has outsold it for the past 2.5 years.

I understand that your trying to align the launch but thats just stupid.  The 360 was the first one out the door and the true sales from a full 7th gen hadn't started yet.  With three consoles out awareness of the need to upgrade your old console became apparent and thats why sales for 360 increased after launch of Wii and PS3.

So as I said if in the past 2.5 years PS3 had outsold what MS has in the same 2.5 years you'd make sense.  As it stands it sounds like your trying to pull numbers out of thin air and spin them to your argument.  Its not working.

@ben...since when do you make the rules?

I compared them from launch up until 2.5 years of their lifecycle...Ps3 is outselling 360 by over 2 million.

I didnt spin anything or make up any numbers. That is FACT.

Anyways, I'm not going to continue. Judging from the comment above by "chalkblock" this forum is full of trolls. I will favorite this thread and bump it at the end of this generation. That's the only time we can truly say who won and lost. But yeah, I DO believe there can be a major turnaround this gen.
