Forums - Sales - Does anyone still believe in a major turnaround this gen?

Hellonearth  Thats not really fair either,PS3 has brand momentum,Blue Ray,Free online ect.

See what i did there?

Lets compare the last 2008 year.

360 is at 10,763,624

PS3 is at 9,520,937

Over half a million more 360 were sold, and Dont say "OOh its $600" Cause the PS3 was at $399,while the Xbox 360 arcade was at $300. Only a $100 price difference, yet 360 still outsold the PS3.

But really 360 is $700 its amazing how 360 is outselling the cheaper $399 PS3.

anyone who expects a massive change is just wishful thinking in my opinion. Theres already been threads on this. Just look at the math people. BEST case scenario the PS3 can tie the 360 in what 2012? is just too big at this point IMO. Thats not saying the PS3 is a bad system its just that we are far enough into this generations lifespan that I think we are looking at

1.
2. 360
3. PS3

end of story.

2.5 years into Ps3's 8-10 year lifecycle isn't nearly long enough to come to a conclusion like that.

-Ps3 still hasn't hit the $299 price point.

-The 3 biggest exclusives on Ps3 still havent released yet (GOW, GT5, FFXIII in japan).

If nothing changes after those 2 points, THEN we can say there won't be any change or turn around this gen. Until then everything here is bias nonsense. You dont have a crystal ball and neither does anyone else. Declaring winners and losers when a console isn't even close to HALF WAY through it's lifecycle is simply stupid.

can anyone give this guy a table? he just doesnt get the numbers wed have to see for PS3 to hit either 1st or 2nd place.

All that proves is that the Ps3 has more value.

No wonder it has sold better than 360 during the same time in their life spans

I dont have to prove anything. Look at the last 2 PlayStation's genius.

The ps3 is not the ps2 or ps1. Both of those consoles were the market leaders. Newsflash, thats the wii. The wii is the console that will continue to sell right into the next gen like the ps2 did, not the ps3.

PROVE IT.

You have no evidence of that. Sony as a company is known for supporting their systems late into their life cycles. We don't know 100% for sure weather it was because they were the market leader or if they will do it when they arent the market leader. Stop speculating.

What we DO know 100% for sure is that Sony has a history of supporting their consoles longer, and have gone on record numerous times to say they will continue to support the Ps3 for a 10 year cycle.

It's not going to be like DreamCast or Xbox where they stop supporting it after a few years.

Microsoft's Greenberg: We're Less Than Halfway Through The Console Cycle

Funny how everyone is already trying to crown winners and losers, when both Sony AND Microsoft are both saying this gen isn't even half over.

All we know is that they will support a very successful console for a very long time. Thats good business sense. There is nothing that says they will stay on a sinking boat and bail out the water. Thats bad business sense.

You could just as easily say that Sony has a history of releasing market leaders, but that didnt prove true this gen (nor with the psp).

Don't get me wrong. If you can get ten years of games out of the PS3 then god bless. Personally I think the line up is looking rather dreary at the current moment.

I thougt PS3's biggest exclusive was GTAIV, MGS4 and LBP? LOL

But seriously, don't expect too much from GoW (look at previous GoW titles sales on the mighty PS2). FFXIII isnt exclusive so it will do little or no change. GT5 will be lucky to reach the 5-6 million.

The proof is based on the fact that the market leaders always last longer. The NES was discontinued in Japan in 2003 for example. So Nintendo does support its consoles if its the market leader as-well. The GBA was also selling significantly well in the first few years of the DS's life (especially in America, check the charts).

Sure the ps1/2 have been supported for a long time, but thats only because they were the market leaders. The buying public decides what console lasts the longest, not the company itself. Sure they can prop it up for a while but the Wii is the only console that has such a large amount of momentum that it will still be selling well into the next generation. The ps3 may eventually outsell the 360, but the wii already has and it still outsells its competition each week.

To think that the 2nd and 3rd place consoles will last as long isn't very logical. I'm not saying they wont be supported longer then the xbox was, but my assertion (based on historical sales precedence) is that they wont last long once the next gen starts.

"We don't know 100% for sure weather it was because they were the market leader or if they will do it when they arent the market leader. Stop speculating."

Neither do you, hence why I've based my argument on other market leaders in the past. Its the only data we have that can be applied.

GOW will sell alot, and FF is exclusive in it's best selling territory, Japan.
