Forums - Microsoft - Forza 3: No weather, night racing, or rally

GT5 will own all of you.....damn those pizza ads are working....mmmm

LOL. I think the gaming media are predicting Forza 3 to OWN GT5.

"The attention to
detail is now beyond impressive, but it’s only when you hear Dan wax lyrical about the fact that Forza’s physics system allows for the tyres to flex under pressure that you suddenly realise you may have entered anorak territory. “That tyre flex thing, for me, as I’m kind of geeky about physics, is so cool. The car has weight; you can feel it just pushing on its tyres. They really feel like they’re connected to the road. That’s actually what’s so hard about developing a tyre model – it’s like predicting the weather. Our physics models are really complex, because they’re really a closed system and everything affects everything else like a spider web.” "

"Speaking of accidents, that’s the last rung on Turn 10’s ladder of improvement. In another poorly disguised two fingers up to its competition, vehicles can now fly completely off the handle into barrel rolls should momentum prove sufficient, with bodywork of various practically random shapes and sizes flying into the undergrowth as this takes place. Rather than numerous yet prescribed levels of destruction, we might finally be approaching the moment that vehicles come out of crashes looking like a screwed-up piece of paper. The only way accidents could prove more realistic is if your driver could actually die having suffered one, the game refusing to load thereafter.

All in all, then, it’s improvement and polish on a massively technical level from Turn 10, only on a scale unseen in the driving genre. A progression structure that’s more flying sparks than nuts and bolts is the only crucial ingredient to ensure that Forza 3 steals the racing crown from… well, Forza 2. With a little pinch of Gotham style thrown in, this should prove the envy of blue shell fans and millimetre measurers alike, and a genuine challenge for that coveted ‘greatest driving game of all time’ spot."

"Now, with the tuning area, we have 49 or 50 upgrade types and we have three groups and 150 different upgrades per car. We have 50 per cent more now. We’ve made the upgrade system more complicated to make a more powerful editor for all these great upgraders and tuners out there.”

Come on Selnor, we know already that you don't like GT and are all for Forza, and there is a Thread for this kind of things, the Official Forza 3 Thread. Just let this thread die already, people keep bringing this up.
The cold hard facts is that there has been no Info from GT and a lot of info from Forza 3, so it's cool to talk about Forza 3, since at each new piece of info the game seems more promising, but there is no need to downplay GT since we don't know much about it, let's wait until GT info is released until proper lines of comparison can be drawn.

Lol they have no mention of GT5 anywhere in the article and you translate that into they predict F3 to own GT5.

Way to go selnor.

Funny that all those "neutral racing fans claim-to-be" only have issue with the people putting down F3 but not otherwise.

The game will still be good without those features but why not put them in. They must of wanted to get the game out before GT5.

I'm guessing they couldn't model Rally and wet weather driving realistically enough with their physics engine in their opinion so they ommitted them.  I would guess Nascar is licensed and they probably don't deem it worthwhile spending money on it for a small subsection of the actual game.  You're quite right though, if done properly they could add value to a title so it's a shame they didn't make the cut.  In fairness most great games have things ommitted simply due to time and budget restrictions, there comes a point when every developer must draw a line and say that's enough.  I happen to think the game will not just be good but a great addition to the genre, people need to stop caring about comparing GT5 and Forza 3 so they can just enjoy both for the gaming masterpieces I hope they'll be.

But weather is important!!

How does this compare to other racing titles? Night racing and weather I mean.

There don't exist any racing games for consoles that can compete with Forza for physics realism.   However, a ton of games (mostly arcade games) have a variety of weather support, including time of day, etc.  They have since the SNES, even.
