Forums - Gaming - The Man, The Legend, Gunpei Yokoi

Damn, has it already been 10 years.

I bet he would have created something like Nintendo On, if he would still be alive.

Nothing's cheaper than something free.

F1 vs FOTA, when too much power is in couple peoples hands.

Around the Network

I wrote some haiku (575) and some tanka (57577) in his honor:

One decade ago,
Gunpei Yokoi got the big
1-UP in the sky.

The father of the
Game Boy, creator of the
D-Pad, my hero.

He invented the
Ultra Hand just for his son.
It sold like magic.
That was 1966.
Then he made The Love Tester!

The man behind the
Miyamoto, Lord Yokoi
Produced Donkey Kong.

He laughed at color!
He knew that battery life
Was more important!
Game Gear and Atari Lynx
Ate his shorts for 9 long years.

His philosophy,
Using cheap technology
In innovative
New fashions, is the genius
Behind the DS and Wii.

Haha, awesome post Rubang B!
Definetly sums him and his accomplishments up well!

I just watched a history of the Game and Watch series at Kotaku and I just realized something. I had always thought that my first entry into gaming had been the atari 2600. Watching this history jarred something in me that made me remember that it was these little handhelds on which I first lost my gaming virginity. Crazy. Go Gunpei.

A shame he died. Who knows, maybe Iwata would have invited him back to work with Nintendo.
