Sorry for the dupe thread...I searched in M$, and didn't think to look in Gaming, sicne this is going to be a M$ exclusive, and figured it would be posted there.

I think this, along with KUF2 are REALLY huge annpuncements for 360 owners, since both games look absolutely awesome, and are sequels that 360 owners really wanted.  I've been playing MW games, since way back to the first PC game, and this looks great.  I jsut hope they have roleplaying aspects to it,...nothing wide-open, but some detail level of customization.  I'm not sure I like the...you'll be stuck in one mech thing, since part of the fun was level progression.  If you're part of a military unit, it would make sense to start as a rookie, and rise in rank with more experience...fingers are seriously crossed here!  The series re-boot could be REALLY huge for the Xbox Franchise.

Huge for the Xbox franchise?   How exactly,  this is a born and bred PC game.  This is a huge announcement for PC owners who remember the awesomeness of this franchise.  Buying the 360 version would be an insult to this franchise.  I have a 360 and I am now going to buy a gaming PC just for this game, because that is where it belongs.

Yeah, I can't imagine how they would be able to handle all the controls with the X360 controller. Hopefully this doesn't mean the PC game will be too dumbed down, but I think the reality is that it won't reach the complexity of controls the original PC games had. I still have my trusty F-16 Combat Stick I used to play the Mercenaries, and every single button and hat direction had some function to control, plus using keyboard to handle jump thrusters and torso movements and probably also weapon groups. There is simply no way to have that kind of control with the gamepad, sadly, and for a game like this it is essential. So while the game does look great, and BattleTech universe is sweet, I'll reserve judgment until the game is actually out and we know more about the controls. If it is good, then I might follow your footsteps and buy a gaming PC for this game alone (and maybe some other PC games I've missed over the years... :)

Just a side note - XB360 exclusive means it's the only platform the game will feature on. Since it's coming to the PC as well, its not entirely exclusive - people who own PS3 systems or Wii systems and have a gaming PC can still play it without getting a 360. Just wanted to clarify for those people saying its a 360 exclusive

An exclusive means that it's exclusive to the consoles. By your definition a lot of Nintendo's and Sony's games would not be exclusives because they also appear on their portable systems.

When did portables stop being consoles?

Exclusive means that no one else has it, that it is the ONLY source you can play the game on. Just like "exclusive news" for a newspaper - no one else has the story, you can only read it there. So, because MW5 can be played on the PC as well, it is not exclusive to the 360. An example of an exclusive title would be Metal Gear Solid 4, Gears of War (at least I dont think a PC version was made), Zelda Twilight Princess, etc.

MW5 is NOT an exclusive title.

Not to point you out specifically, but why do people insist on altering the overall userbase for all gaming to fit their needs? Gamers for PC, HD consoles, Wii or portables are all gamers. The exclusion of any of these markets needs to stop.

I hope they use the salvo concept found in MW: Mercenaries. Being able to salvage parts from enemy mechs you killed was one of my favorite parts out of all of the MW series.

Actually the salvo system has been around since MW 2,  so I imagine it would

I dont remember it having salvage options (MW2), but when Mercenaries came out afterwards, it did. I dont remember MW4 having it. Hell, I need to find my MW4 CD and go back and play that again. =)

From the IGN Interview:

The mechs are so valuable and so important: they're more important than the guy you've got in the cockpit. You can find another guy, but the mechs are so valuable. Salvage will take on more of a real meaning in the game, right down to a rudimentary level of "keep getting enough parts to keep fighting" rather than "I have another six chassis in my inventory to just throw on the market." So we really want to get that feeling again. Along with that comes the personality: those enemy mechs, you'll recognize that one Atlas with the horns or something because you'll know who that is--it's that main enemy commander. It won't be like fodder; you'll see him throughout the game. Stuff like that really gives the personality and the importance back to the mechs.

And on MW4, there was a thread about it becoming a free download with all the expansions in case you don't find your CD!  I've only played 2 and Mercs so I'm definitely getting 4 when it is a free dl!
