I'm going to have to get a new gaming PC for this, I only hope that it being a cross-platform title with the 360 doesn't hurt it (MW4 Vengance, Black Knight and Mercs, especially, were awesome but the Mech games for the Xbox have been lacking.) I'm going to keep my hopes up - and it's about damn time there have been rumblings of MW5 for years.
I love that trailer being set in 3015 on what I suspect is a FedSuns world (could be Lyran but they wouldn't freak out because of an atlas). I'm hoping that this is the pregame trailer (which it seems like) and you start the game in 3020 or so and maybe the end can be the 4th succession war.... ooo that would be cool, and hopefully it's like the original Mechwarrior game that allowed you to take contracts with all 5 houses and was set pre-4th succession war.
Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.
One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.
I hope they use the salvo concept found in MW: Mercenaries. Being able to salvage parts from enemy mechs you killed was one of my favorite parts out of all of the MW series.

It will be. It's already going to be limited to a certain degree just because of the 360's controller and games that were made to be used with a controller usually don't port too well (stupid X-Men Legends...).

Actually the salvo system has been around since MW 2, so I imagine it would

Finally! A new Mechwarrior!
My favorite PC franchise of all Time XD

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

I dont remember it having salvage options (MW2), but when Mercenaries came out afterwards, it did. I dont remember MW4 having it. Hell, I need to find my MW4 CD and go back and play that again. =)

That teaser from yesterday was indeed for a new Mechwarrior title, which is in development at Piranha Games, who worked on the latest Transformers title. So at least you know they have experience with giant robots! Then again, it also means they have experience with making crummy games based on giant robots. Though, let's give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. They only helped develop Revenge of the Fallen. And being a movie tie-in, it had a deadline to meet. Something they won't have to worry about with Mechwarrior, what with Battletech being 25 years old and all. This new game is called simply MechWarrior, and will serve as a reboot of sorts for the franchise. You'll still be piloting mechs, but the developers reckon that current console technology will for the first time let you feel like you're really behind the sticks of a giant fighting robot. They're also shooting for a "dynamic battlefield", and rather than feature a food chain of mechs, instead want to let players choose a style of mech and then upgrade that to suit their tastes as they progress through the game. MechWarrior is coming to the PC and Xbox 360, with no details yet on either a publisher or a release timeframe. To see the full debut trailer, click below. Looks like GRAW with giant robots. Which is a real good place to start. Source: http://kotaku.com/5310586/new-mechwarrior-game-confirmed-will-reboot-series |
Sorry for the dupe thread...I searched in M$, and didn't think to look in Gaming, sicne this is going to be a M$ exclusive, and figured it would be posted there.
I think this, along with KUF2 are REALLY huge annpuncements for 360 owners, since both games look absolutely awesome, and are sequels that 360 owners really wanted. I've been playing MW games, since way back to the first PC game, and this looks great. I jsut hope they have roleplaying aspects to it,...nothing wide-open, but some detail level of customization. I'm not sure I like the...you'll be stuck in one mech thing, since part of the fun was level progression. If you're part of a military unit, it would make sense to start as a rookie, and rise in rank with more experience...fingers are seriously crossed here! The series re-boot could be REALLY huge for the Xbox Franchise.

Huge for the Xbox franchise? How exactly, this is a born and bred PC game. This is a huge announcement for PC owners who remember the awesomeness of this franchise. Buying the 360 version would be an insult to this franchise. I have a 360 and I am now going to buy a gaming PC just for this game, because that is where it belongs.
