I hope this sells much better on the Wii! (although I have my doubts) The Wii version is not only one of the best Soccer games ever made but it is easily better than the PS360 versions. Anybody who knows what they are doing will buy PES 2010 Wii over any other other Soccer game this year. The only Sports game that surpasses it on Wii is Tiger Woods 10 and that is saying alot.

Totally agree silentmac. After playing Pro Evo on the Wii I won't go anywhere near any other football game on any other platform. Pro Evo on the Wii is a trfootball simulation, the only thing it's missing is the licensing. I really can't understand why EA Sports haven't 'borrowed' the control scheme for the Wii FIFA franchise.
FIFA 08 was pretty good, more like an old-school arcade style footy game similar in a way to Sensi Soccer with the top-down camera view, then they decided to half 'borrow' the Pro Evo control scheme for FIFA 09 on the Wii but completely cocked it up lol.

PES could probably reach similar sales if it wasn't for the fact that they staggered the launch. While 08 survived and did really good, 09 suffered horribly due to staggered launches.
I think PES 2010 will probably do <1/2 of PS3 sales. Had Konami and EA not killed soccer on Wii by delaying and creating a crap version they could both be closer to ~3/4 of PS3 sales for 2010 but now they need to re-earn the trust of Wii owners. |
U do realize the overwhelming majority of PES owners are casual gamers right? Isn't it possible that PES09 sold only 1/5th the amount of PES08 cause a lot of ppl tried PES08 on the Wii and thought the new controls sucked?
U have to remember, motion controls were made to expand the audience by making games more intuitive. Konami has done the exact opposite with PES by making it more complex, & let's not forget some of the terrible control design choices they came up with for the game.
Also, is it that difficult to add classic controller and/or gamecube controlloer support?
If u ask me, Konami has been the worst big name publisher for the Wii. Even THQ has given us better efforts.

erm no. Casuals tend to buy Fifa as it has all the lisenced leagues that they are aware of. PES is for the hardcore :)

What are you talking about? The controls are dead simple in PES Wii. Analog stick controls whoever you have selected (ie ball carrier), B passes, A selects and moves players whereever you point, Z slide tackles, nunchuck shake shoots. The tutorial in PES '08 made it seem more complicated that it is because they went into all kinds of advanced tactics but it is easier and more intuitive than any other Footie game ever and gives more control over your entire team.
Personally, I think the main reason why the HD versions are selling better so far is that those versions came out before the Wii version and also anyone who is a multi-console owner who doesn't read the internet will instantly get the HD version because of better graphics despite the far inferior gameplay because they are uninformed.
Also, as the guy above me pointed out. Fifa sells to casuals because of the licensing and obviously they didn't do such a good job with the controls on that one.

@silentmac
The controls were done terrible. And sorry but u don't have more control. They may give u control that was never possible w/o pointer. But they also take away control that u previously had.
For example, in PES08 u don't have the ability to control ur shots anymore. Also, there is no co-op multiplayer option anymore. Finally, they add a lot of control when u attack, but on defense u have no control whatsoever. U just press a button & the closest player on ur team runs @ the opponent with the ball & then u waggle when u get close to him.
So yeah, they may have given u some extra control but the amount they took away from u that u already had is inexcusable. And that's why i'm saying after playing PES08 nobody bothered with PES09.

If you control your ball carrier with pointer controls rather than nunchuck then the ball goes in the general vicinity of where you were aiming in PES '08. This was fixed in '09 however as it goes where your pointer is aimed now.
Also, the defense controls on '08 allow you to call plays as to how your defense handles, mark the ball carrier or potential ball carrier, and then you just drag your players near the ball carrier and tell them to slide tackle or steal the ball. In '09 you can directly control defenders with the Nunchuck and tell them to press/slide tackle... Still, I see what they are trying to get at in '08. Footie defense is about sooo much more than just having 1 player try to attack the ball.
I'm unsure about what control you think was lost besides the ability to control an individual attacker on defense and shooting in '08? All of this was fixed in '09. There is far more control of the entire team, than any other footie game ever. I'm sorry but I think the main reason why many didn't bother is because they already owned PES '09 on PS2, PS3, or 360 or are Fifa players.
