Forums - Nintendo - The Conduit: O-D-C's early impressions

On a visit to GameStop to 'browse' the latest games I noticed one last copy of the Conduit on the shelf... after debating wether to buy it for about an hour I took the 54.99$ plunge, and here are my VERY early impressions.

Graphics: Where to start... best on Wii? No, not even close, sure the effects are pretty, but I own Gamecube games that look better then this, some things like the gun details, character models are fine but the enviroments... where are the details? everything is gray or a shade of orange. But that might fall into art direction.

so grpahics Ill give it 2.5 / 5

Gameplay: Go to point A shoot 5-7 enemis go to point B shoot 5-7 enemies, lather rinse repeat.

2 / 5

Controls: Fantastic, almost as good as Metroid Prime 3, and the customisable controls are so detailed that it makes the Conduit play like one of Wii's finest.

4 / 5

Online: Stay tuned

So thats it, so far its pretty underwhelming, sure the controls are great, but the real punch to the gut is thr gameplay is so darn boring. Sure Im not very far into the game, but from what I can tell... (sigh)

You should never review a game. The controls are better then metroid prime 3, you only don't have a lock on button which would be retarded

I'd really like to see a gamecube game that looks better then this without looking at design art. Please, tell me one. Giving it 2/5 on graphics is just... =/

Last, but not least. Don't review games when you haven't played it for more then an hour and you haven't even touched online which is the greatest part in the game.

better looking gamecube games:

Resident Evil 4
The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike
Star Fox: Adventures
Super Mario Sunshine

and btw I am a game reviewer http://www.360blog.org/2009/05/a-blast-from-the-past-a-review-of-fire-emblem-shadow-dragon/

Metroid prime looks ugly if you ignore the design art. There I said it. Zelda looks quite ugly as well. RE4, don't know what looks so great about that. Normal game...

Seriously though, metroid prime looks really dated...

Ps: You must be a great reviewer if you compare cartoony games with realistic games =/ (Mario)

Controls are great online is good. Its not an amazing shooter but it is fun. So it worth it imo. Very fun game. Never bothered with single player since thats not what FPS are about now.

playing the game on something other than rediculously simple  default might be a good start as well.   Severe all the way baby!  youd lose that ho hum lackluster tude in a hurry.

I'm having a great time with the game personally...when im not cursing at the kids slaying me online or the severe difficulty mobs owning my every move, of course.

only minor gripes are that its not easy to hook up with friends as the server wont let you sit in queue waiting for an opening, just tells you room is maxed...and that its not easier to use speak option.

great game

You reviewed the graphics too early.  It's better later in the game.  Granted, there is little excuse for it not to be consistantly good... but it does deserve at least a 3-4 overall as there are some parts that are 4-5/5.

Gameplay also improves later in the game, but not as much as the graphics.

^ Yeah, that's annoying, mario kart wii has the same problem(about the friends)

fair enough, but I did label this an 'early impressions' thread, I guess you can all look forward to my full review :)

Just keep in mind that the singleplayer isn't all that good and that this game shines in online department. I hope you have a decent connection though and don't whine too much about lag +p
