Forums - Microsoft - Natal Visionaries only

Seems the only problem Natal has for the most part is the lack of vision from the current gaming generation despite the Wii already paving the way. Luckily the developers do not seem to lack the vision and instead appear to have taken the concept squarely on board.

So I would like you to imagine you are developing a game on the Xbox and Natal. What would you do and how would you use the existing controllers and Natal to make a better game. Below is a list of what I understand the Natal's expected capabilities.

  • Full motion tracking for multiple gamers
  • Facial recognition
  • Voice recognition
  • Scanning
  • Gesture recognition
  • Please only people with vision although if the concept is clearly not workable feel free to discuss.

"Natal is a seminal moment not just in video games, but in technology too"  Daily Telegraph and they cannot be wrong, can they?

Bundle Natal with the Tron disc game from the movie and I would buy it. Could have two game modes. One where the character moves automatically, much like Wii Sport's Tennis, and one where you have 1:1 movement of the character. Both modes would allow players to catch and throw the disc. Jumping would be done in both modes. This would allow the game to be played by people who have space, and people who do not.

If that happened it would cost a lot more.

RTS Games....Full Voice command and controlled by your hands...Switching Hands controls with Voice Command..

    RPG-Turn Based...
Voice Command... Hand gestures to scroll through menus/selecting targets and Attacks/magic.
Voiced responses...Moving the character through the maps with your hand. And slew of other features using voice and your hands

I envision Hand Silhouettes for both RTS and RPG NATAL games which are moved by tracking your hands.

Gundam Games- Kinda like the DreamCast 007 Gundam game with in cockpit view. Fully interactive 3d Cockpit- again with Hand tracking. Voice command and Chat

Basketball games- Wireless Control + Natal
During Free throws you put your control down and make like your taking the free throw your self.
These games will come NAtal ready but wont need to play the game it making NATAL optional.Voice command play calling.

Football games- Wireless control + Natal
Voice command play calling. Punting/Field Goal Natal Ready

Baseball- Wire less control + Natal Voice Command Bullpen calls And Runner on base commands. Natal only Umpire Mode for online playing during a match between two other players.

Racing Games- We have seen this with BurnOut.

These just a few quick ideas

I've heard a lot of people here wonder about how Natal could control various games, and come up with some solutions. For your viewing pleasure, I will NOT be using green right now. Before I start tough, the tech was supposed to be able to recognize detail from the player down to the size of a pinch.

Oh, but before I start...has anyone thought that maybe the game will let us CALIBRATE each action with our OWN gesture ideas? Now then...

    FPS and Shooters:

Shoot: Either point your hand like a gun and bend down your thumb or use a periph with a trigger.

    Duck: Bend your knees.

Jump: Go on the balls of your feet and down.

    Cover: Same as crouch

Grenade: gesture that you are throwing an object

Reload: Take your other hand and pretend like your loading a clip into a pistol.

Extra Options: Up to the user.

Moving: Sorry, your gonna need an analog stick for this. The only possible way I can see to move Forward/back is to lean in and out, but obviously thats awfully annoying, limited and turning would be absolutely horrid.

    Fighting games:

Set the camera to your side instead of in front of you, and then gesture the basic movements. For special attacks, gesture in the correct order or at the certain time. Duck, Jump, same with FPS.

    Sports games:

Do I really need to explain this? Noooope.

    Party Games:

    See Sports Games.

    RPGS:

Now this could be tricky, since RPGs are so varied. Obviously for games like Fallout and Oblivion, you'd use standard FPS control. Mass Effect the same. JRPGs would be much more difficult to figure, so I'd say various hand gestures for selecting options for turnbased ones, then similar fighting styles for the action JRPGs. Magic could be cast with certain "wand" gestures.
