Forums - General - I've never watched an Anime, but I want to start. Recommend me a great one.

Why didn't any of my otaku friends told me about FLCL!? (They are the ones who are recommending me new and great anime)

The recommendations on it are intriguing! ^^
I'll try to watch it...

@axumblade

I need a yellow vespa. And a few badass guitars although not bash people with.

Okay, just Wiki'd Cowboy Bebop and it sounds incredible, like a bunch of my interests rolled up, and, best of all, not an endless amount of episodes. I'll try that first.

Lupin the 3rd also impressed with it's wiki-summary, so I'll try that too, and I'll probably also have to give FLCL a shot.

Following those all of Nitekrawler's recommendations sound good, with the aid of wikipedia I'll winnow my way through those and check out the best.

I'll follow up in a few days once I've obtained, watched, and formulated my impressions on the first few.

Thanks again everyone (and I changed the initial post to seem less demanding and less of a bombardment of requirements).

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Trigun seemed very interesting. My friend tells me to watch it but i'm only in the habit of recommending things i've seen.

^I also didn't get to watch Trigun. Although my otaku friends recommended it...I seem forgot to watch it =P

Woot! Thanks to this thread I won't be bored with watching same old stuff lol

I love old-school anime... you guys will prolly laugh but the first one I ever saw was The Fantastic Adventures of Unico when I was like 4 years old, and it's still my fav to this day.

Unico is the shit... I strongly recommend OP check it out... it was directed by Osamu Tezuka (Astroboy, Kimba the White Lion), also known as the father of anime.

Galaxy Express 999 is another great old-school anime movie, and that has just about everything that OP listed that he likes.

And yeah, watch Cowboy Bebop... it kicks all kinds of ass, in a good way!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I watch very little anime but I enjoyed Trinity Blood for whatever thats worth.

Also, it may not be that you expected by asking for anime recommendations but I say anybody interested in anime should watch the Daicon iii and iv animations. They were opening animations for two of the Japan science fiction conventions nicknamed Daicon. It was made by a group called Daicon Film, which later formed Gainax which also made FLCL that Khuutra suggested. They are not quite what you are been looking for when you figured you wanted to see a new anime and III's animation and [image]quality was ameteur but they are still fun to watch. Daicon III and IV are both 5 minutes and  minutes, respectively.

Daicon III

Daicon IV

Gintama.

Just watch it.

And few more none mentioned yet:
-Darker than Black; it goes under "superpowers" but I think its great
-To Aru Majutsu no Index, once again there are "abilities/powers/whatever you call them" but its pretty awesome. Ends kinda lame though, but I think its going to get a sequel spin-off kinda thing (think tales of symphonia style sequel)

They don't have those 3 points you dislike though. Maybe for second one, second "point" applies, but not because hes strong or something like that.

Oh and watch Princess Mononoke. Its beyond amazing.

"And yet, I've realized that maybe living a "decent" life means you won't ever have a "good" life."

i agree with whoever said cowboy bebop.. favorite anime by a longshot. FLCL kicks ass too, though
