Forums - Nintendo - WSR in Japan First Week is 87% of SW total

Of course WiiSportsResort isn't going to push much hardware. Its a sequal to a over glorified tech demo. Also for those saying WiiSports sold the Wii origionally. Remember that in Japan the Wii wasn't bundled with WiiSports it was sold as a stand alone game. In the end I don't expect WiiSportsResort to have long legs and I highly doubt it will push hardware. As someone already pointed out most casual gamers don't even know that WM+ is anything new they probubly thought the origional WiiMote could do everything motion + can.

The system sellers are going to be NSBW and Galaxy2 and perhaps Metroid:TheOtherM but Metroid isn't as big in Japan as it is out here!

I don't know how you can say that Wii sports didn't move HW, when it's at 3.58 million copies sold in Japan alone. That's like half the entire nation's install base!

Also, Wii sports may be a "demo", but it's also awesome.

I meant it wasn't bundled with the hardware so people likely bought the hardware for other games. Also as you say thats like half their install base, Chances are many gamers didn't buy Wii for WiiSports the software probubly performed well due to the lack of competition (Only a few titles availible at launch).

It may be a fun tech demo, but you can put sprinkles on crap and say its a donut. But its still a peice of crap (Tech demo).

Nice trolling.

People are buying Wii Sports for Wii Sports. In Japan, where it's not bundled, and has been out for 2.5 years, and a sequel is already out, it's still in the top 20 best selling. How does that jive with your 'shit donut' theory?

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

hehe, MH3 is so gonna rape, I want a black Wii but it's too late for me I guess.

I don't know what is the problem with selling 87% of the console's software in the first week.

According to this site Monster hunter 2G sold 88% of the PSP software in Japan in its launch week.
pokemon diamond and pearl : 79%
GT3 : 86%
MGS4 : 93%
Halo3 : 95%

18k to 21k is a move. It's not a big one, but I bet Nintendo would prefer a sustained smaller boost than a large one that goes away after a week.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Wii Sports is a fantastic set of mini-games. Sorry if you can't recognize something that's brilliant, as brilliant. Wii Sports is probably the single greatest factor in the Wii thrashing those other two systems back at the launch, and is still moving systems today.

Oh, and look!

you are right ... but GT3, MSG4 and Halo 3 were early games in their generation so the library was a bit small in terms of good games... not the case with WSR... but is an opinion...
