I think anyone who devotes a big chunk of their life to killing thousands of other people isn't usually a good guy. He may be morally strong or upstanding, but he led to a lot of deaths. Comes with leading an army.

his nephew (NB III) was a major factor in the unification of Germany back in the 18th century..

all i can recall about NB I is "my my! at Waterloo Napoleon did surrender!" and he was short. that is all.

Napoleon was a military genius (look how many defeats he suffered, and how many he has won against the odds) and a great man. He was a Statesman a leader and a man who have reshaped a map of Europe, just look how years Grand Coallitions were not able to defeat him. And Russian Campaign, it was his ultimate test he lost that campaign without loosing the battle, it just proved to be too much of a logistics problem.

He was a lawgiver "Napoleonic Code" have influenced all administrations in the world.

@Montana, i think there is no such think as good or bad in this case, majority of great Men in history (leaders and kings) had blood on their hands, Whether it was Charlemagne, George Washington, Saladin, Fredrick the Great or Alexander. While talking about their morality they have to be put in context of their times.
