Man beaten after teens misinterpret woman's sex screams
By The Associated Press

TORRINGTON, Connecticut - A group of teenagers misunderstood a woman's screams during sex and, thinking they were stopping an assault, beat a 25-year-old man in her bedroom, police said.

A 16-year-old girl who lives in the same home as the 34-year-old woman overheard her and the man on June 6 and rounded up four friends to stop what they thought was an attack, police Lt. Bruce Whiteley said Thursday.

One of the five teens beat the man with a bat and others punched him, police said. The man was treated at a hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening, and was released that night.

"Apparently he didn't have time to explain himself," Whiteley said.

The girl, two 17-year-old boys and Dilyen Langdeau, 19, were arrested Tuesday night and arraigned in Bantam Superior Court on Wednesday. Langdeau was charged with assault and conspiracy; the teens face similar counts. The fifth teenager was not charged.

A judge sealed the police report. The names of the girl and the two boys were not released because of their ages. The girl's relationship to the woman wasn't clear.

Messages left at a phone listing in the woman's name and at a phone listing for Langdeau's address were not immediately returned. It wasn't clear if Langdeau has hired an attorney.

There was no phone listing for the victim.

Well I kind of hope they get off easy, not that I condone going around beating people with bats, but they were trying to prevent what they thought was a rape, that's not a bad thing.

IMO they should have to pay for the guys hospital bills and any sort of physical or mental rehab he will require, but other than that should be let off.

That's BS. Five guys can pin a guy to the ground easily, and then call the police. No need for violence, especially before they even asked the woman if she was actually being raped.

There's something that smells bad about this story. Why didn't the woman tell them to stop? If she did, why didn't they stop?

Turns out the girl is the woman's daughter.

Also yes NJ5 five guys can pin one guy to the ground, but it wasn't five guys, it was four teenaged boys and one teen girl

Also a teen isn't as likely to act as rationally in the heat of the moment as you are sitting miles from the event typing on your computer.

Also who would ask if someone is being raped and give the rapist a chance to pull a weapon?

I understand in the heat of the moment things can go wrong, but that doesn't mean people should be let off for their irrational acts.

I'm not used to people having weapons, then again I live in Europe. I certainly wouldn't assume any criminal has a weapon (even though I got mugged at knife point once).

In the US weapons are easy to get and a lot of people have them, I know i'd strike first and ask questions after I knew I was in no danger.

I'm not saying they should be let off, but I don't think they should be punished for trying to do the right thing, I think paying off the medical bills is punishment enough, its not like the guy was badly hurt.

If that's the philosophy then maybe people should carry those stun guns which can stop someone without hurting them permanently. Are you really comfortable knowing that at the first sign of danger you'll potentially hurt someone?

Why does this story strike me as something that would happen more commonly in a cartoon than in actual real life? Oh yeah, because it takes a sort of lack of common sense in order to actually pull it all together. I have to agree with NJ5, there was no need for violence. Yes, they had good intentions, but they delivered said good intentions badly. If they burst into the room and screamed out if everyone is already. I'm positive the man and the woman would have been red and embarrassed to the point of being sent to the hospital. But no one would have gotten hurt, the whole shoot-first-ask-questions mentality only brings forth trouble.

Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?

Think like the way they might have. If really thought some random guy was trying to hurt my mother you better believe I would do something about it. I would probably just do my best to hold him down while someone else called the cops though. Of course the cops with have to get their quick, because if it turned out he was trying to hurt her........ Anyways, I do not blame them one bit. It is along the lines of what many teenagers would do. None of us can judge them for it. I have been in situations were my relative or a friends relative have been in a bad situation. All that had to be done then was us just so up by them. Thankfully nothing ever happened in those couple situations.

I hope they get off easy.
