Going to the moon was the most useless and money wasting achievement. It was just done so the Americans could brag against the Russians.

best post here QFT

Yea, I mean forget about the 400,000 people in employed, the thousands of scientific discoveries we made, and the fact that the whole thing cost less then the bailout that allowed chrysler to live for 2 more months.

Actually, it costed a tremendous amount of money in that time and who cares about people employed? It's not like they couldn't find another job now is it? They were highly educated people and it's not so hard to find a job then. The discoveries were laughable compared to the amount of money wasted on it. They could have invested that money in something more important to get some real scientific discoveries. I'll tell you this again, the only reason why America went to the moon is to show off against the Russians. That was there most important reason.

Music is a pretty cool discovery, not essential, but its weird how hearing strings and melodies of noises gives us so much pleasure.

You do realise that the space race led to many great inventions such as the Internet (USA) and satellite communications (Russia), don't you?

Anyways, for me, it was probably the establishment of civilisation - moving from tribes to countries.

Yeah, but the landing on the moon it self wasn't so useful compared to the money they threw at it. Anyway, I read the history of the internet once annd it had nothing to do with space, but it was too complicated anyway. I'm not saying it's useless to go in space, but the moon? I'm sure they made some discoveries, but to call it our greatest? Not really... Not by a long shot.

Football.
500 millon people touch a football every week
750 million per month
2 billion per year!!!! Thats a massive amount of the worlds population!!!!

Ill try to find the link :)

Seriously, its made dreams possible and large amounts of alot of peoples lives have football as a main feature.

Uhm, soccer is more popular and makes more money. Just saying... I find it strange that you're not a soccer fan if you live in the UK.

the internet?

the internet (the infrastructure) was developed by the military in the US wasnt it?

and the world wide web (what we use here daily) by a British physicist Tim bernard-Lee

Yes, but it was done in response to Russia launching a satellite, they essentially developed the Internet to one-up Russia.

Here's a quick history that I found: http://www.davesite.com/webstation/net-history.shtml

MC Hammer

Toilet paper

"And yet, I've realized that maybe living a "decent" life means you won't ever have a "good" life."

We don't call football soccer on this website. The handegg game is American football and the more popular sports is football. We won't surrender to the Americans.

^this

The only country in the whole world that seems to call football soccer is the USA, everywhere else is called football. You know why? Because you kick a ball with your foot. Where as american football you run around holding an egg shaped ball with you hands.
