Forums - Gaming - Analysis: X360 underachieving and why it won't get a price-cut in 2009

^talk about not reading...who said $400 is a mass market price? $200 is what is WIDELY considered mass market price for videogame consoles, and that's exactly what I'm tired of saying here about the X360's price.

Look, IGNORANT, before the PS3 got its price cut in Oct 2007, it was $600/$500 all year. I'm talking about USA numbers here, alright? The FIRST TIME EVER in USA the PS3 saw a $400 price tag was OCTOBER 2007.

YOU POST A LINK AND YOU DONT EVEN CARE TO NOTICE WHAT YEAR THAT STUFF IS FROM! LOL

THAT WAS 2007 for the XBOX 360 dude!!! talk about embarrasing yourself saying it was August 2008!!! LOL LOL LOL Fool , you just got owned by yourself.

LOL , OWNED. YOU FAIL.

I definitely agree with you The, even if you apparently hurt a lot of MS fanboys in this thread.

Considering its price is very low, the 360 is definitely underachieving.

Any price cut now wouldn't help the 360 since most people who wanted a 360 already bought one now (149$ is already basically free).

"Xbox 360 is doomed" threads are back. We have come full circle. PS3 to win this gen confirmed!

On topic:

Your analysis seems quite solid, even when based on an estimate. Microsoft uses smoke and mirrors to market it as an incredibly successful and wanted entertainment object, of course (think Don Mattrick and Aaron Greenberg). But there is no denying that almost 4 years in the market and already at $200/170€ for the entry model, it isn't doing as expected, or hoped.

Also, I believe that if Sony drops the price on the PS3, Microsoft will follow suit if the damage starts being painful. It's throwing the towel as you said, but Microsoft has said numerous times they are in the race to make sure Sony is always behind them. The battle for the entertainment center box in our living rooms, remember? What will come out of this... we will see in the coming months. Front row seats through VG Chartz! ;>

I don't think the 360 is doomed at all. Every console looks more or less succesful to me this gen, maybe because the video game market is growing so fast.

^I agree, I'm not spelling doom for the Xbox or anything in this thread, although I think I have made a serious case of why I believe it won't end as well as many people think.

^ It was just a joke. My thoughts on the matter are presented after the "On topic:".

wow i just read everything in this post and lemme tell you xbox fanboys are going crazy lol.

The price cut helped a lot lol thats a fact. But a Sony price cut or a wii to $200 will do more...i think thats what the OP is trying to say and i agree.

Is M$ price cut a failure? Absolutely not... but is it the end all be all? also absolutely not.

So you disagree with "The"? He says the price cut was a failure.

hi all, i for one can only hope that with this pricecut and rumored slim ps3 that sony does what it,s fans here are predicting and that is to outsell the 360 by a large margin, if not it will be like lemming over a cliff up in here , these self proclaimed threads of the 360,s doom at the hands of a sony pricecut seem abit farfetched in my opinion. i do wish sony all the best of luck, to some of you guys this is NOT THE PS1/PS2 ERA deal with it ok .....game on.

Overall this gen Microsoft has done great compared to last gen. Nobody is arguing that.
They have increased market share and are beating the PS3 in monthly sales.

But that is all it is doing.
and we all know that everything after these facts are what this analysis is about.

This is talking about how the $200 360 is selling barely more than the $400 PS3. (cheapest sku's for both)
Think about that for a minute. It really is amazing. Yes Last gen to this gen its an amazing turnaround for Microsoft. But look at what the PS3 has done since the beginning of this gen to now.

How in the world is the PS3 (which was introduced at $600) keeping pace with the 360 at $200, regardless of any other facts, its simply incredible. Microsoft is hellbent on doing everything in their power to win against Sony. This is their time to grab marketshare and they know it.

I think Microsoft will cut prices further if they have to, you really have to admire that determination.

Simply put: Microsoft went for the kill with the last price cut, it surprised the hell out of me since it was only 5 or 6 months after a previous cut. They have done everything right to completely eliminate the PS3, but still the PS3 is here selling almost as much.
It is impressive. The level of competition is great to watch.

Sometimes I wonder if there is a silent agreement between Sony and Microsoft to both compete against each other without completely eliminating the 3rd place console... this way the 360 and the PS3 multiplat development remains as the best option for most next gen game developers, (instead of developing on the wii)

has there ever been a gen where there were 2 similar consoles that were in 2nd and 3rd place?
(like the SNES and genesis comes to mind) but they were not in 2nd and 3rd behind the unprecidented wi
