Forums - Gaming - PS3 v.s 360 Cost Comparison... PS3 Is Cheaper To Game On!

I'm sure the PS3 does, in a limited perfect scenario, offer more value.

However the Cell chip was said under perfect conditions to be the most powerful chip in the world.

I think we all realise that offering up a set of restrictive conditions to prove a point, is a fairly pointless pursuit.

I have a 360 and a Wii. I like em both.

I will get a PS3 when it comes down in price and there are a good slew of exclusives the like of which are unavailable on the 360.

However, as a gamer who prefers single player to multi player, who doesnt watch movies in his spare time, the 360 offered an infinitely better deal at the time.

Just pick the console that makes most sense for you and close your ears to the monotonous bleating of the fanboy mass.

^heh, you got a point. Xbox owners: just remember to breathe and don't look at the light while playing. It's good advice.

^lol that's just an error , nothing to do with hardware whatsoever. Thanks for the link though, I trust you will be here just in time for your Xbox's third birthday, I'll bring the candles!

Hey BMarker,

Can you cite that the current crop of 360's have a 30% fail rate? If not, I feel a ban may be coming on.

Article was written when the author spoke of Dead Rising, Halo 3, Gears of War, and a 40GB PS3. I'll take the assumption that this is from 2007 or early 2008. So in the frame of reference from when the article was written, 30% is correct. Banning me because of that would then lead me to question the moderating staff. If people can get banned for facts, then what next?

Wait.... i thought the reason the 360 was outselling the PS3 was because the PS3 was nearly double the price....

well it' is. thats the reason.

but value wise ps3 its way over since the online is free.

but those are things are going to hit them later after purcharse.

as in to continue product owner ship you have to keep paying for online and accesory.

thats not something people see or think (unless it's me =P) before buying.

Well from my experience i've spent

$400 (pro console)

$136 (120 GB HD)

$120 (Xbox Live)

$10 (Vision Camera)

$150 (4 controllers)

$30 (wireless Headset)

$30 (Headset+texting pad)

and god knows how much money on games.  So i've spent $876 on accessories and 360 alone.  But guess what, It was worth every damn penny.

And that's just the thing. No where in this article does it ever state that it wouldn't be worth it. But because it's a knock on the 360 (because the money eventually adds up when you factor in the accessories to get the "complete" experience), automatically it becomes "nobody uses wireless", "nobody buys an HDD", "nobody buys LIVE", when in fact, it does happen

@Mag: "Error 8001050F is a reference to faulty hardware - In particular your Blu-ray Drive unfortunately there is nothing you can do apart from send in back to Sony or if you are very confident purchase the parts and replace it yourself"

When will the Sony boys learn that the PS3 is selling PATHETIC for being HALF THE PRICE of the Xbox 360? THEY SHOULD JUST GIVE UP, because no price cut is going to save their ebony machine from its certain fate! Its time to FACE FACTS people! The Xbox 360 is selling because people want it, and thats something Sony has simply failed to do. Every time I see someone whining about sales, I think about comparisons like this which PROVE BEYOND DOUBT that the XBOX 360 is simply the better console. BETTER CONSOLE!

I'm glad we all believe consumers are perfectly rational now. This is why the consoles are priced at 199.99 and 399.99, because there are just too many people who when they are optimizing their finances come to the realization that that extra .01 breaks the bank.

I've noticed a generally negative relationship between how well international studies rate the "mathematics" education of a country's student population and 360 market share. Correlation or causation? :P

Always rational, 100% of the time! Isn't that one of economic's founding assumptions?

http://social.jrank.org/pages/944/How-Educated-Are-We-International-Mathematics-Proficiency-Comparisons.html

I don't see any negative or positive correlation relating to maths usage really, so perhaps the half of the world that buy Xbox 360s are foolish and the other half which buy PS3s are not? The Wii buyers are just kicking to a trend.

Tease.

You know, I could also bring up an article about how every Playstation failed due to bad lasers on their initial run(s) and leave out pertienent facts such as that I'm talking about the PS1, or the fact that later models were fixed.

You and I both know that the early 360's were often cited at having a 30% failure rate. That does not mean that every Xbox 360 made since the article has that failure rate. Falcons and Jaspers fixed the problem. Since you seem to know the Xbox 360 well (as you post on the Microsoft forums quite often), you should know that failure rates have dropped significantly since the introduction of said models.

Not only this, when we're comparing the $199.99 and other price points, we must note that we're comparing current hardware revisions. The Xbox 360's with the 30% failure rate did not cost $199.99 for the Arcade. They costed $299.99. While your at it, why not compare the price of a 60GB PS3 to a 20GB 360 premium from 2006 at $399.99? Afterall, your only going to get those failure rates with those consoles.

You should *really* know better than to cite old articles spouting even older sales information.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I read an article last year when I was about to buy a ps3 about the console-prices in a gaming magazine and I came to a conclusion that I would save money on the long run if I would get the ps3, after that I was looking for upcoming games and my mate called me that he just got mgs4 and it was awesome and I read positive reviews of it so I just had to go and get it the next day, I haven't regretted single day since I got my ps3. :)
It has great variety in games, steady library growth, blu-ray if I want to rent a HD-movie, free online gaming, ps3 exclusive game developers are really ambitious (lot of awesome games have come and are coming in a year).

I respect people's opinions of getting the 360 (They bought it so they like what the console has to offer). but please PS3 is cheaper in the long run there's no need to argue about this. 360 is only cheaper if you don't use online or buy anything extra to it.
