Forums - Gaming - What determines if a title is AAA

RE5, AC and COD WAW are "AAA", because they had enormous development and advertising budgets - and that's all "AAA" means

I would classify Dead Space, Infamous(maybe this one is more of an "A"-lvl production ), Uncharted, PoP, Resistance 1/2 and the Sport games as "AA", because they had big budgets, but not on the same level as the 3 others.

AAA generally refers to a game that recieves a 90% or better on metacritic

Long Live SHIO!

What a game nees to get AAA? Either:

High Budget
High Ratings (above 90% metacritic)
Large marketing campaign (doesn't count for Wii games. The Wii is a toy)

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

For me its, over 90 on average, reaching 5m in sales in total, and the game keeps you coming back even long after you bought it, possibly affecting your gaming habits and thinking in real life.

So none of those games are AAA in my opinion. The closest are RE5, COD WAW.

Me.

No kidding. I think the most commonly accepted definition is 90%+ on Metacritic. But a game doesn't need to be AAA to be awesome.

In the industry a AAA game is one that has been worked on for awhile with a large budget.

but according to the fanboys it is a game that has over 89% on metacritic

I would definitely go with the latter over the former, though neither are really good definitions of AAA.

Going with the former, Too Human is a AAA title while Okami is not.

A triple A game usually has the following features

1. High budget

2. Mostly favored reviews (around 85% or more)

3. Sell alot of copies (usually at least 1 million)

4. Is played alot even months later like Halo and COD (this only applies to multiplayer games as they are usually the only ones that can be tracked like that)

So if a game can be awesome without being rated over 90% on metacritic, isn't your sig pointless starcraft?

But then he can't make the 360 look better than the other consoles!

AAA roughly refers to the budget of the game as some already pointed out.
