Forums - Nintendo - Why Hardcore wii games don't sell

Bobbuffalo said:
because so far the "hardcore" whatever games on wii are just too weird and dumb to be taken seriously. I don't think that Madworld or Deadly creatures or HOTD Overkill would have sold millions on the HD consoles..heck I doubt that they wouldn't even sold on the PS2. Others like Dead rising are watered ports that wii owners won't just accept that easy.

Weird games don't sell. Period. No matter the console.

Ding ding ding. We have a winner.

I would disagree. Madworld would have so a million on the PS3 or Xbox 360. I think those buyers would like something like that. Of course, it wouldn;t be a lot (just over a million I'd say).

They do sell extremely well.

You just are confusing what the word hardcore means.

Mario Kart Wii is the best selling hardcore game of this generation.

I concur.

There are quite a few VGC users who have turned into rabid Wii haters after they have played against us in Mario Kart Wii.

Even though you are all three rubbish?  I find that very strange.

There

*cough, cough*

Check my time trials to see if I'm rubbish.

If I'm rubbish then I don't know exacly what Tuoyo is saying about himself.

That I'm the best

At what?  Talking rubbish?

Lol.  Just you wait and see.  I will lap you when we race.

No way; you can't lap the snail he is.

I think the whole "casual vs. hardcore" dichotomy is grossly overblown and generally stupid. From my experience, both with WoW (where that stupid argument also dominates) and gaming in general, labeling someone boils down to their comparative interest level.

If person 2 is less interested in gaming, or has different tastes, person 1 labels him "casual". If person 2 has similar interest and taste in gaming, he's (hard)core. If person 2 is more interested, spends more time, or spends more money, person 1 feels he has no life.

In reality, there is no hard and fast "hardcore" or "casual", just different people, with different tastes and differing interest. Yet for some reason, people like to turn them into a dichotemy, with little to no overlap. KZ2 is hardcore. MKWii is casual. X360 is hardcore. Wii is casual. Etc.

In reality, I've never met anyone who didn't blend the two "opposites" greatly. My dad hardly ever plays games, and by hardly ever, I mean a few times a year. Yet he beat Mario 3 back in the day, and has beaten Resident Evil 4 (on Gamecube) like 4 times. The only other games he's shown interest in recently are KZ2, L4D and CoD4. Would he be casual (based on gaming time) or hardcore (based on gaming interest).

Or me. By many definitions, I'd be hardcore (own every system, have legions of games for all). On the other hand, I've got terrible reaction time, coordination and thus get my butt kicked in games like Halo 3 by people who don't even own the game. And Mario Party (and other "casual" titles) are among my favorite.

In short, casual and hardcore are self serving labels to try and boost one's own tastes in gaming, and put down those one does not enjoy.

Couldn't agree more. That argument is made even more annoying in WoW than it is here.

haha i agree, i play everything from killzone to littlebigplanet to mario, my original intention was to inquire about more along the lines of piracy's effect than start an argument about core vs casual. And i AM going by personal experience because I in fact do not know much about the wii, i'm very new to that platform, i just know that piracy is rampant is psp and ds and often times, games like resistance and god war so not sell as well as they should

Soon the Darkside will be irresistable and will crush the MS rebel scum underfoot.

The Wii owners are like Ewoks. The Evil empire will tolerate them but turn their forest moon into a secret base.

they don't sell because all the good ones are on the hd consoles, with some rare exemptions.

And if someone will finally get around to posting the 27th week of US sales, we'll see if the Conduit will be another exception (assuming you just made a typo at the end).

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

No More Heroes a great game that has everything it would take to sell well on any console lots of violence, a really cute female lead gets less than 500,000 in sales. An average sports sim like Wii Sports gets 45 million and an average fitness sim like Wii Fit gets 20 million on Wii.

And the usual trolling by txrattlesnake appears finally, after having his other Wii trolling account permabanned yesterday, welcome back!

wii owners don't like to play games, they want to do exercise
third parties just have to realese games like madworld fit or slim fast over kill and they'll get 20mil no problem

Do me a favor and go shoot yourself.

here's the question - how many of these hardcore games made profit on hd consoles and how many hardcore games made profit on the wii? aside from Deadly Creatures every other good core wii game made profit. how many good hd games made profit? i think it's better to sell 200k and make profit than sell 1mln and bomb, but maybe that's just me.
