Are they dying compared to last gen? Or the gen before? I'd argue not, even if most of the sales come from Nintendo nowadays.

Little Big Planet is great for co-op, though New Super Mario Bros. Wii may end up being better. Super Mario Galaxy and New Super Mario Bros. are the best single player experiences I've had from platformers.

Unless you count re-releases, in which case Super Star Ultra conquers the world again.

If Prince of Persia, Uncharted and inFamous can be considered as platformers, I don't see why The Conduit or any other game can't be.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
