Forums - Nintendo - Will Wii Sports Resort become the top selling game for the Wii?

I think Wii Sports Resort can beat Wii Fit. The two easiest ways would be for WF to be unbundled from the balance board and/or WSR to be bundled with Wii.

Regardless, I still think WSR appeals to more Wii and non-Wii owners than BB/WF. I don't see it overtaking Mario Kart or Wii Fit anytime soon but eventually I think it will.

I didnt think of that. If nintendo were to eventually bundle WSR with the Wii it would definitely boost its long term sales. But then it could never possibly overtake Wi Sports with both having been bundled.

Nah Wii Fit will definetly stay on top, at least for awhile. I do however think WSR has the potential to reach 20 million at some point. IT really depends on how much the motion plus is supported in the future and how much it takes off. There's no doubt the game will be a success, but whether it'll be a 10 million success or more of a 20 million success remains to be seen.

Wii fit could hit 30 to 35 million so it would be very hard to beat. WSR will probably end up third behind wii fit and mario kart, unless wii fit plus does really well, then it could end in fourth. I would say it will end between 15 and 30 million.

That would effect sales if Motion Plus wasn't sold seperatly. In the end people who want WiiMotionPlus will get it with the games they want. They aren't going to go out and buy WSR they will go out and buy the game they want and get WM+ bundled with the software they want. Its not like WiiPlay which was pretty much the only way you would get a second controller, and WiiPlay sold like 22 million units and today is nowhere to be seen. Why is WiiPlay not selling anymore? Because people can buy controllers seperatly again.

A title like WSR needs to have a monopoly over the hardware, like WiiPlay did with the Wiimote, WiiFit did with the balance board and WiiSports did with the Wii. WiiSportsResort however doesn't have that hardware monopoly people will buy the games they want bundled with WM+ or they will buy WiiMotionPlus seperatly.

I still don't think WSR stands a chance of toppling the likes of MarioKart, it may rival SmashBros but not MarioKart or WiiFit!

15-30 Million, highly unlikely. WiiPlay the most successful of the tech demo style Wii games hasn't even reached 30-million. And WiiPlay had the upper hand being bundled with a WiiMote when WiiMotes were impossible to find. Also MarioKart hasn't even reached 15-million yet and it is one of Nintendo's most famous franchises.

When you think of it, WiiPlay isn't even in stores anymore. I bet the same thing happens to WSR after a couple million units. People will already have WM+ and no longer have a use for WiiSportsResort!

Maro Kart Wii is at 16.32 Million

I think WSR will do very well. I know plenty of people who still love Wii Sports. I am one of them. I really doubt it can beat Wii Fit though. Wii Fit sales are just amazing and a big shock to me. I thought it would not sale near what it has and still is.I figured it would sale like5 million at the most. I think WSR will do 10-15million unbundled with Wii lifetime. I would (GUess) they are already working on the next Wii Sports type game. At least coming up with what games to add to the next game and I think if WSR is still saleing well that could take some thunder form it. Were i could easily be wrong is, A lot of games start using motion plus. THen the sales will just be crazy for each 2 player game added that uses it.

natal and scibblenauts will rule them all ooops did i say that out loud? :D

err i mean WSR will sell a truck load but i doubt i will beat wii fit and will struggle to overtake Mario Kart wii

Scibblenauts will be a great game but it won't sell. sad but true. :(

OT:

No. OVer 10 millions is aguarantee but no way to over take Wii Fit which started the fitnees game phenom on Wii.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
