Forums - Sales - Pachter: Xbox 360 will fall to 3rd place this gen

Dude, by 2010, Microsoft will have Halo Reach, Gears of War 3, Final Fantasies 13 for both PAL and NA at the same time as PS3, Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake, and the Killer App of NATAL that will take more Casual away from both SOny and Nintendo..

Seriously, this is worst than Hippopgamer predicting Killzone 2 will have a chance of surpassing Halo 3 in lifetime sales.

Also, not to mention Microsoft will come out with JRPGS a few times a year to satisfy the JAP core, have price and advertising advantage. Anyone with 1/2 a brain knows GT5 and a Jap release of FF13 won't do jack for Sony....it is common sense.

Of course the Xbox 360 will eventually stay ahead of the PS3. Digital downloads baby. People are fed up with optical media and marketing failures. The Xbox 360 is millions ahead of the PS3 and it was still $350 this time last year and outselling the PS3 of this year. When the Xbox 360 gets another price cut it will tap even more markets and sell like crazy as the Arcade units the most popular SKU during the holidays.

Lol

i hate you burst your bubble squilliam but sony already have full games for download in psn.

warhawk , GT 5 prologue and Burn out paraside.

so microsoft it's kinda late to remove those retrictions

A lot can change in 2.5 years. Nintendo will be first place, but I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft and Sony were almost equal in the end. We'll just have to wait and see.

Lies... when Sony almost cathes up and the lead for Microsoft is 1 they will launch their new console and make this gen non-important... Briljant.. Bill Gates thought about this himself!

I second that.

Within 2 years they will be a new Xbox but Microsoft will still be supporting the Xbox 360 till 2015 that's the luxury that Microsoft has over Sony.

To Mvp4eVa,

I agree with most of what you're saying, but Microsoft doesn't seem to still be supporting the original xbox, and Sony is still supporting the PS2, even almost 3 years after the PS3 launch, so it seems the other way around right now.

Why do people think NATAL will bring any significant boost to sales? Especially a boost to further the 360 lead over PS3? The PS3 and 360 motion controls, while technologically different, will to all intents and purposes be functionally identical. Because it will be a niche product for both 360 and PS3 at least until 720 and PS4 come fully integrated the best profitability for 3rd parties will be to develop multiplat titles. I wouldn't be surprised to know that Sony and MS colluded to a limited extent to ensure their respective motion capture technologies were sufficiently compatible to allow for multiplat 3rd party games. MS already knew that Sony would base it's technology around the PSeye.

Neither 360 nor PS3 motion capture will be game breakers this gen. MS ain't gonna sell 30 million NATALs to existing 360 owners. Nintendo have already sold 50 million wiimotes, but they aren't gonna sell 50 million motion+s to existing Wii owners. Sony haven't sold 22 million PSeyes yet, and they won't after the wand is released.

True but, Microsoft wasn't making any money on the original Xbox so they stop supporting it.

Sony had the luxury to keep supporting the PS2 after launching the PS3 because they were profit still to be made.

Now Microsoft will do with the Xbox 360 what Sony did or is doing with the PS2.

So Microsoft has the Luxury that Sony had with the PS2 with the Xbox 360, thats the so much mentioned 10 year life cycle.

I dont think Sony is thinking to launch a new Playstion along with the new Xbox within 2 years.

Sony can't afford a new Playstation console, not yet, not between 2011, 2012

The Natal Xbox 360 in 2010 is to extend the Xbox 360 life to another 5 years, 2015 as it said the 10 year life cycle console comments this gen..

Point is, Sony doesn't have the luxury that it had before with the PS2 to support both current console..

Sony can't do that now with the Ps3, they can't distract thier current user base away from the Ps3 with a PS4, not now, not yet, not by 2011.

Microsoft can support the Natal Xbox 360 till 2015 and launch a new Xbox within 2 years.

Because Microsoft will market and hype the living heck out of it to soccer moms, gradparents,.....that is something Sony just can't match.

I am sorry, but with the protential of the 3 Triple Threat blockbusters in NATAL, GeOW3, and Halo Reach....what can Sony counter with?

If Microsoft makes the 360 last until 2015, won't the 360 have outdated graphics by then, or will NATAL enhance it?

God Of war 3, Gran turismo 5, Killzone 2 (since we are talking of unannounced games), twisted metal, etc etc.

in terms for exclusive ps3 have quality and quantity, having tons of good studios helps.

there is always going to be games for it consoles :).
