Forums - Sales - Where are the asian sales?

All consoles in Thailand came from retailer which mostly import directly from South Korea, not official stores.(Because non of them dare to invest over here, because of pirates and gamers that never know that support those evil will destroy game's industry and made no one wanna come to invest here!)

Why South Korea?I don't know the detail but they can fully mod South Korea' Wii to US, and it cheaper than import from Japan or US.

Which asian countries actually have the consoles officially released?

PS3: Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan
360: Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan
Wii: South Korea, Taiwan

360 & PS3 have also been released in India & the Middle East, but these are included in PAL/EMEA regions and not Asian region as with the countries above.

South Korea and Taiwan are the main markets followed by Hong Kong and Singapore.

No, I'm pretty sure the Wii is out in Singapore and Hong Kong. I've seen it in stores.

Not officially, those are are Grey/Parallel imports.

Well, Sony have officially released PS2 and PSP in Thailand, still waiting nearly three years for PS3 though ... which is strange considering the lack of piracy on it.

Along with South Korea many consoles are imported here from Hong Kong too.

Hong Kong looks to have a nice gaming industry considering it reduced population. Near every game is realesed there, both western and japanese games. I wonder if they localize the Japanese games to english or chinese to those buyers.

Often games aren't localised, so Japanese games are usually Japanese only. There are some exceptions though, SCE Asia have managed to release a few Chinese/English localised PS3 games simultaneously with Japan. Even though Hong Kong has a small population the Asian region also includes Taiwan and Singapore, so there is a larger Chinese speaking market than Hong Kong alone. I'd guess many also get imported to the mainland.

@BKK2
Yes at least they said so, but they have like...few stores that have PSP/PS2 in stocks.

And actually i never see even one on shelf in any Sony official stores that i ever visit.

Imo Sony has highest possibility to release PS3 officialy first in Thailand before MS and Ninty.(Considered that last gen PS2 was extremely popular here.)

I've seen PSP in Sony Style before, but it won't make much difference if they officially release PS3 here, I'll continue to buy my games at the import stores in MBK. It would be nice to be able to change my PSN account details to my real address and use my CC on a Thai PS Store though.

Hong Kong PS Store has stopped accepting my CC since a few months ago, and most of my games are Asia region so can't use DLC from other region stores as it's region locked. I'll have to buy some PSN cards next time I go to Hong Kong.

Anyway, hopefully it will launch in Thailand with the rumoured slim model.

Wii has been officially released in Hong Kong about half years ago.
But it won't make much difference since that distributor is very passive (as far as I know, they only distribute the console and very few games, most games are still parallel imported)
