...I don't particularly want inFamous.
Sure it's a game that I have a passing interest in trying out at some point, but it is not one of the suite of games I planned to get on the day I finally bought my PS3 (this coming Thursday (Wednesday for you Statesiders)).
But it's a bloody good deal...oh by the way it converts to US$452 at today's exchange rate.
These are the games I want to get on Thursday (I'll get a second controller too):
VALKYRIA CHRONICLES (I have it reserved, I'll be the lucky owner of the 500,000th copy sold)
Drake's Fortune
Tools of Destruction
Singstar (haven't decided which one yet, I'll let the missus decide)
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion GOTY
LBP
(You will see from the game list the precise reason why I'm buying a PS3 as opposed to a 360 or Wii: only one multi-plat in the list)
So you see there is no room for inFamous. But this is the maths. Infamous sells new for $98 (US$63). This means I'm effectively buying the PS3 for $600 (US$388). The next best deal I've found is PS3 + 2 platinum games (retail for about $54 each) for $728, this would mean an effective PS3 price of $620. So doing the inFamous deal makes the PS3 $20 cheaper. However Drake's Fortune and Tools of destruction are 2 games I could get with the $728 deal. If I can sell inFamous (unopened) for $85 I can almost come out even.
Why am I even considering the inFamous deal when clearly my least cost option is to go for the 2 platinum bundle for $728? Well I kinda want to give my business to the only store in town where I have found Valkyria Chronicles for sale, and that store has the inFamous deal. Whereas a different store has the 2xplatinum deal. In selling inFamous ($80 more realistic) to offset the cost of having to buy R&C and Uncharted separately I'm paying a store $8 more than I need to basically as a reward for stocking VC. If I do this I will be telling them that the only reason I'm buying from them is because they have VC in stock, otherwise I would have gone elsewhere for the $728 deal.
Perhaps while I'm there I can convince them to give me a deal that does not involve me having to on-sell inFamous in order to even things out a bit. Let's hope they are willing to come to the party aye?
Does spending an extra $8 (that's 2 lattes) for this reason mean too much of my heart ruling over my head? Should I stick to the cold hard economic realities and go with the option that will cost me the least?
