Forums - General - I think my AC is broken, suggestions on what to do?

So I live in a three story condo.  The first story is my garage and office space with everything else on the above two stories.  The AC is controlled by three different panels, one on each floor.  The filters are changed in the attic.

And that's about all I know of the AC in my place.

I've pretty much neglected my AC in my office the past few months because I just haven't been down there.  Since I haven't been down there I just turned it off so I didn't waste electricity.  Today I go back down to my office and start cleaning it and notice it's hot.  It's damn hot.

So I turn on my AC and continue cleaning and it stays hot.  It has stayed at about 90 degrees in there and I can never hear the fan running or feel anything coming from the vents.  The AC works fine on the other two stories but I'm just not getting anything on the bottom story.

Anyone have any suggestions on what might be the problem?  I already checked the circuit breaker but everything seemed good there.

Have you checked the filters? Otherwise I dunno, I've never been blessed with Aircon!

My friends call me Hadoken because I'm down-right fierce

I was going to suggest cleaning/changing the filters, too. Good luck, Twes.

Did you check the battery in the control panel? After that, it really depends on how technical you are. The next step would be to check out the signal coming out of the control panel (make sure it is actually sending a fan on signal) and then going and checking the switch on the fan to see if it works. If you have a multimeter it should be fairly easy to poke around and check.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

No idea what the problem could be - but in a pinch, get a fan and blow it over a bucket of ice towards you.

Just do the obvious first, change the filters, check the system, etc... And if all that fails call a repair guy because you don't want to mess around out of your depth with something like that cos it may end up costing more.

Maybe it needs more freon?

Whoops, keep meaning to reply to this topic and keep forgetting. >_>

I changed the air filters yesterday but I'm still getting nothing form the vents downstairs. I have a multimeter but I don't know if I'm going to bother with checking the panel. It's a great suggestion, it just would leave me in the same step I'm going to have to do anyways-- call a repairman. ;_;

My builder is around somewhere and I have to get him in my place anyways since they still haven't fixed me ceiling (roof leaked) so I might ask him who he suggests.

But hey, I bought a fan for down there and now it's only 86 in my room instead of about 92!

Call a professional. Get it fixed.
