No, it's only really being sustained by the handhelds and the hope that FFXIII will be good and sell.
There are RPG's on the 360 but they aren't keeping the genre are afloat.
I think people have misread (or maybe I misread).
I think the question was which genres are on the verge of this extinction this generation (only). Point and Click & side scrolling action & platformers have been on the edge for at least 2 generations now.
I'd say good arcade sports titles (last good 2 ones were punchout and nba street homecourt and look at the time period between those games).
JRPG's (hopefully DQIX and FF13 can save us)
Nation leading strategy games.
For example Romance of the Three Kingdoms, PTO, Nobunaga's Ambition, Gemfire...
As far as i can tell there hasn't been one game like that released.

This is true. Strategy games aren't doing too well on consoles this generation sales wise.
Jrpgs for sure. FF XIII is our last hope.

Point & Click Adventure games...
although Zack & Wiki was a good try.. it was not comercially successful.
