Forums - Gaming - What game genres are on the verge of extinction?

Yall forgot about Side scrolling shooting games ( Ravage, Ikaruga)...As far as I'm concerned, I only saw remakes and not new games.

Wha?

When I read Side-scrolling, I thought of horizontal Shmups like Darius / Gradius / R-Type (Blast Works for Wii is excellent, btw - It's pretty much Tumiki Fighters with knobs on).

Also, besides games like Contra 4 / ReBirth and Metal Slug 7 / 8, there's not much to repesent the Run & Gun genre these days.

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

i may be wrong but i feel like there has been a big decline in turn-based RPGs. i know DQ9 is coming soon but that is the only good one i see coming.

I don't really know how the genre is called. But finding newly developed games (like ikaruga) is kind of hard for me... I only see remakes.

Well just put it like that, the games that are on the verge on extinction are games that are not on discs...

The platformers situation would be remedied in an instant if SEGA just made a big 2D Sonic game for home consoles. It can still have amazing 3d 'next gen' bonus stages but please, PLEASE SEGA bring out a new 2D Sonic game!

Playing: Borderlands(great co-op,HUGE amount of content),Too Human(better late than never lol),Saints Row 3(Penetrator ftw),Minecraft 360,Harry Potter Lego.

Patiently waiting for:  Tomb Raider, Borderlands 2

Arcade style sports games. I'm tired of this realistic crap.

mini-games and fitness 'games'

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

RTS. Halo wars is the only decent one worth mentioning in the past few years

Is that a joke?

Their fixed it. Though I haven't played Halo Wars. So I based it off
his opinion

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true. 2nd UPDATE: I have no Switch 2. I am now behind

Biggest pikmin fan on VGchartz I won from a voting poll

Point and Click Adventures. Though Sam and Max and the Monkey Island remakes keep it from seeming so.

Those have been dying for a long time.  There are the obscure PC games but the genre is more or less dead.

My vote goes to the JRPG.

a lot of these genres like Turn based JRPGs and point and click / visual novel adventure games are thriving on the DS
