Yamauchi: “We will give the release date of GT5 soon.”

June 27th, 2009 by Jordan

In a short but sweet interview with AutoWeek magazine which must have fallen through the cracks with all the other E3 news, GT series creator Kazunori Yamauchi stated that “We will give the release date of Gran Turismo 5 soon.”  The question remains, though - just how soon is “soon”?  Speculation is mounting in our forums, with many pointing towards the upcoming Tokyo Game Show this September 24-27.  Aside from taking place on Polyphony Digital’s home turf (their offices are located in Tokyo), the 2007 TGS show is where they announced the release date for GT5 Prologue.  While this is just speculation, you can see the pieces of the puzzle would fit together quite nicely.

Another surprisingly interesting portion of the interview came when Yamauchi was asked about Gran Turismo 1’s development:

AW:  How hard was it to make that first game?

KY:  It took five years. In those five years, we could not see the end. I would wake up at work, go to sleep at work. It was getting cold, so I knew it must be winter. I estimate I was home only four days a year.

He also mentioned the original game was created by a staff of only 7 people!  Oh, how things have changed….

The interview is actually pretty old. June 3rd. Was this already posted?

I think we all know we can expect a release date at TGS09. Just like previous TGS, GT series tends to be given its release dates there. Lets just hope its a World wide release date like they are planning with GTPSP.

I hate announcements for announcements. I really, really do. Why not just give it to us now? Or, failing that, why not just.... well, actually, why not just give it to us now?

This pretty much confirms that it will releas late 09, I would peg it at late October, or early November.

You stole my news article =P

Holy crap, I didn't recognize you.

OT: I'm pegging late November and/or early December for at least two of the three territories (probably Europe and Japan).

Also, don't rule out an announcement at Leipzig.  Europe is where the bulk of GT's fans lie.

That's what I'm thinking..

This is a push. Polyphony havent shown any gameplay footage and it wasn't playable at E3. I think it will be like the following.

GT5 - Japan Release = March

GT5 - America = May

GT5 - Europe = June

Even then I think that's optimistic. It's possible that Europe won't see GT till next christmas IMO.

I actually think this game will be released in Europe before America (if not WW launch) because GT and PS3 have biggest fanbase here.
