Forums - Nintendo - So, I beat The Conduit. My mini review.

It took me about 7 hours and now is time to do my mini review:

- The Story Sucks: Yep for all those claiming it would be generic, yes it is. No cinematic cutscenes, VO is terrible, TV sound effects are average (the wiimote sounds look awesome) and the game is linear to death: go from A to B, pump the guts full of bullets everything that moves.

- Visually it semi-sucks: I did some close views to pretty much everything in the game, I was amazed how things simply don't lose detail as we approach it, many unseen effects on the Wii, some serious shading and bump mapping work, Agent Ford hands and weapons are one of the best I've seen including PS360 games... But it looks like shit!!!! Seriously, the randomness of the objects is annoying, so many awkward repeated stuff thrown into to fulfill the scenario.  HVS should hire a serious Art Director. Graphically its a raw diamond. Impressive but the way it is designed sucks.

- Gameplay: This is were it shines. The FPS with the best gameplay actually is The Conduit. It's simply perfect, never though Medal of Honor Heroes 2 could be beaten, but this is way beyond it. Absolutely ZERO flaws in the gameplay, and the cursor itself is even more sensitive than what it is navigating the wii menu. A milimetric change in the position appears on screen. I used a custom layout were I changed pretty much everything.

Multiplayer: Have yet to test it.

Just to finish: I was fuc**ng bored playing through the Story Mode, but I've finished it. I will have much more fun on the game playing it online, not on story mode, just like CoD that I didn't even finished the main campaign. The HVS engine can do wonders on the Wii, many detail into the objects and particle effects, water effects are stunning and gameplay is god. Now they just need an Art Director and make deals with some good sound studios and good actors.

Hope The Grinder and Gladiator A.D both fulfill The Conduit's flaws and takes the engine beyond.

I don't agree with you opinion on the VO, I thought it was amazing.

But, overall, nice mini review.

I own all of lastgen systems as of October 2008. (Finally got a Dreamcast)

I own every currentgen system except PS3.

Sounds like it is going to be a multiplayer game then.

Though frm what I have seen of the story there are some cinematic cutscenes... isn't there one right at the beginning.
either way I am not bothered in the slightest that there are no cutscenes... one of my favourite bits of Deadly Creatures for example is hearing parts of the story as you crawl by (though it had cutscenes too)
Also I don't have a problem with the voice acting... in fact the opening cutscene has a voice that sounds similar to that from the opening of REmake to me.

The lack of good art direction is a drawback... but I could see this problem months ago and still want the game anyway.
I will judge the full-story for myself when I get the game, but when the SP is only 7 hours anyway I imagine I will not be spending that much time on it.

i agree with the review... and the ai should be more intelligent.....but the multiplayer is AWESOME, try it.... 8/10 for me

We are Wii....Waiting for Pikmin 3! and Pikmin 2 NPC...

   Playing:

   - Donkey Kong Country Returns

   - Minecraft!

   -  Venezuela FTW!

i have played about 1 hour of the conduit, i found the controls good, online play was fun, the single player seems average to me so far, i hope the single player improves as i play more, online seems to be the main draw of this game.

sadly it won't. Seriusly the game is all worth it for the multiplayer but I'll have to wait a few weeks for a proper internet connection.

When I played the Conduit on my SDTV, it didn't look all that impressive but when I played it on my 52" HDTV, it looks fantastic.

Agreed- one player mode is nothing amazing. The multiplayer is fun too, but damn it all with the hackers abusing their hacks.
