I never thought I would, but recently I've been very interested in picking up a DS. I think I'm just gonna buy a used original DS from Gamestop for $80. Is there any real advantage to owning a DS Lite or DSi? I just want it for playing games, I don't need to browse the web or anything.

You should get a DSI, you won't need the gba slot much.

Definitely pick either a DSL or DSi over a DL Phat. It's just way, way better. More compact, better battery life, much brighter, lighter and easier to hold, sleek design... Really, once I got my DSL, I never went back to my original DS. Not one time. The difference is really night and day.

Go for DSi man.
It will get exclusive games and features. Don't miss it.

If you are looking to minimize money spent then go with the DSlite. The greatly improved battery life, smaller size, and better batter conservation in sleep mode make it far superior. While the DSi will have more games eventually available for it, I have yet to see any system selling software on it as yet. So for now spend a bit of extra money for a DSlite I would say.

I would also say go with a DSLite. You can always go to gamestop and ask to hold both before you make your decision.

get a used DSL best choice when u just want games and also can play GBA games with it.

Thanks guys, I'll most likely buy a DS Lite. I have a bunch of 360 games I want to get rid of and Gamestop is running a promotion where you get 40% additional credit if you trade in 6 games. I've got some pretty good games (i'll never play again) I can probably just apply these to that.
