Forums - Nintendo - [ ! ] RE Archives. Who's got it & how are the new controls?

@Sherlock: The next main RE is going to the PSP, made by Capcom Japan. Wii is getting an outsourced rails shooter. So much of a reward for buying all these rehashes. But dont worry, what goes around comes around. I enjoyed Bionic Commando bombing terribly, that was a good sign.

I don't get what the obsession with releasing on-rails shooters on the Wii is. Do companies think Wii owners have been conditioned by minigame collections to be capable only of pointing and shooting, unable to grasp the complexities of moving a character around, under your own power?

According to the RE:UC producer yes. He stated that Wii owners like easiness and that they wouldn't play a game that would require any skills at all, so he changed what originally was a game like RE4 (with 3rd person view) to an on rails shooter.

And with RE:DSC Capcom said that they are aiming for a far easier experience, where the player only has to worry about shooting and this time there's far more cutscenes and less gameplay, so they dumbed it down even more for the sequel.

Just find the GC version cheap (2nd hand or something)

There is no point buying the Wii version unless you can no longer find the GC version. (unless you find the Wii version for like £5)

They just remapped the controls so they would work on the Wii, but you might as well be playing the GC version as it is essentially the same thing. I don't think they added any new Wii support at all other than saving to internal flash. They really should have done what they did with RE4 Wii Edition, but they didn't.

so basically it's NPC Resident Evil 1 minus the name (probably because it's rated R and not Nintendo licensed).

No it isn't. The new play control games take advantage of the Wii remote motion contol and/or IR pointer.

This is a flat out bog standard port.... it's the same game played with a different controller. At best ther could be the simplest form of waggle button replacement for using the knife (but then the knife in RE is not a seperate weapon like in RE4, so it is unlikely)

that's just awful, i was considering getting this game but no 480p? NO WIDESCREEN??? no new controls? not even any extra modes or content. what's the point???

the wii can play gamecube games anyway so there is absolutely ZERO reason for this game to be made and absolutely no reason for anyone to even consider buying this game. how sad :(

hasn't anyone asked capcom why they're releasing this? that'd be embarrassing for them for sure, what an awful company.

wait, you are telling me this has GC type controls!?

then what's the point of releasing this to Wii

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

I don't know about 480p or widescreen.... those are possibilities..... but other than that everything is the same.

@Kylie: Best Wii game, LMFAO. It's a GC port, and an old one in that sense (7 years+ old). It's not a Wii game, it's a GC game, so you are wrong.

Secondly, the GC version is still being sold for less than the price they ask, so that's pathetic considering there's nothing added to the game at all. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0000657SP/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used

People praised RE4 Wii Edition because it was the best version as it had the best controls (that were actually new controls), had the best content and the best graphics.

The game supports waggle controls like shake to aim or change weapons.

I'm not saying the game is bad per se, but this is one of the worst deals ever made. Not even enhanced graphically or at least something worthy added, a plain copy paste job which gets more aggravated when you find out there's people selling the game for less than what they ask.

And according to reviewers Wii specific controls are terrible so the only option to really enjoy the game is plugging in a GC controller, which is tremendously sad.

I also tried playing both my GC copy and Wii copy, while it doesn't quite support widescreen they did do something to enhance the display so it isn't stretched. I looks a lot better than the GC version (both running through the Wii).

I can get the same effect by switching my TV from 16:9 to 4:3.

Eh, the original game was great, so rereleasing a completly unchanged copy isn't the worst thing they could have done, (that's what the virtual console is, and we all love that), but it just seems so half-assed, when they could have at least bumped it up to 480p and 16:9.
