Forums - Sony - This guy fixed my YLOD PS3...

Most of these fixes are only temporary, kind of like the 360 wrapped in towel routine. I hope it works for you but putting it in the oven would freak me out. I would rather re-solder everything. I wonder what made him try an oven.

No?

This. Seriously 2.8 kills PS3? Thank God that I have been playing my friend's wii for the past week so I haven't updated my PS3 yet.

I seriously doubt it's just the 2.80 update although when it happens shortly after, it's pretty easy to assign blame.

Did the update to a 40GB model, will do the update for a 60GB shortly.

The oven trick is the "easy" way to reflow the soldering on the motherboard. Can't say I recommend it, since it heats all the soldering joints on the board, but it seems to work in some cases.

The better way to reflow is to use a heat gun (preferably one with a temp gauge) on the specific parts that overheat and misalign (CPU, GPU, RAM).

And while that heatsink is off, clean off all the old thermal paste and use a better TIM like Arctic Silver 5.

There's an excellent guide here:

Thats just a straight lie that 2.80 would've caused any ylod problem of that scale. And for you to "recomend" an oven-fix(!) just shows us the way you chose to take care of your hardware. So if you personally got ylod after the 2.80 updated, id say it was totally your own fault!

Now i've searched alot of forums to see for myself, including the official playstation forum. I've even tried doing a handful of google searches on the matter, and i've found one (1) thread about it, and that one didn't even seem to be a ylod problem.

So all i can find is this VGchartz post made by you. So please provide the thread with some links where people says that their PS3 has died due to 2.80.

So.... in order to save your grill you used an oven???

XD, I'm kidding.

I have the MGS4 80gb bundle...Am I safe?

And I would never put my ps3 in a oven...
