Forums - Gaming - DS to PSP porting

The recent announcements about GTA chinatown wars got me wondering about the feasibility of said practice.

Could this be a cost effective way of increasing revenue for the smaller devs and publishers?  They could release it online to create an even higher margin on the product to not have to worry about the shipping of physical disks and sales volume.

I know that not every game will be released as some take of advantage of DS features that can't necessarily be duplicated.  However there are plenty SRPG's that i'm sure PSP owners would purchase even if they had to use the D-pad and buttons to select units. Games like Riviera and such make me think it might be worth it.

Around the Network

I don't think it's worth it. People who buy a PSP over a DS probably aren't looking to play the games that are successful on the DS. Alot of them probably feel that those types of games are ruining gaming. Or at the least, they are titles that they don't want to play... which is why they purchased a PSP instead of a DS.

I think the only times you'll see this happen and actually be profitable is when some company makes a game that's clearly aimed at the PSP market and only releases it on the DS.

I'm sure there is some crossover in game tastes between the demographics. I'm mostly thinking about SRPGs and JRPGs and other core games that don't particularly take advantage of the DS unique controls.

I'm thinking games like:
Age of Empire games
Bangai-O Spirits
Castlevania games
Civilization
Chrono Trigger
Contra 4
Cookies and Cream
Dragon Quest games
FF games and ports
Mega man battlenetwork and Z series

Most of these are core games that would need none or next to no alterations. And i think there would be consumer interest from the PSP side as well.

It has already happened for a while with games like tom clany's end war and several others.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.
