Forums - PC - Old PC Games

I'm not a PC buff at all. In fact, I have absolutely no knowledge on PCs. I also have a shit computer too.

So because of that I've enjoyed playing some old games like Medieval: Total War, Rome: Total War, and Deus Ex.

I downloaded System Shock 2 (trying to figure out how to install it), and I'm planning on getting American McGee's alice. Do you guys have any old games that I should try out?

I liked the Total War series a lot, but I don't really like the look of other RPGs... I just hate how unrealistic and chaotic it seems, whereas you get punished in Total War for letting the enemy break through your lines, and you want to make sure to keep everything in order.

I don't mind playing some RPGs on the PC, but after loving Oblivion, I didn't like Morow Wind at all (although maybe it's because I didn't give it a long enough chance to transition). If you guys know any, I'll love to play some old JRPGs (if they're even any on the computer), hell I'll even give Visual Novels a shot.

If you're going to recomend a FPS, I'll rather prefer games that are single player oriented (as I have no intention of playing online), and are most into story.

I'll post my PC specs if I even knew what anything meant, and where to find them.

Edit: I know how these recomendation lists end up with everyone recomending, and the OP just dissapering, probably not even taking the advice, so I'll put what I'm interested for the momment here:

non-gravity (Rise of Nations and Empire Earth),

Slimebeast (Stronghold Legends),

salaminzer (Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator),

DaveD (Chip's Challenge)

Diablo

KOTOR (if it even works)

Grandia 2

Kohan 2

I'l probably play Chip's Challenge first.

Tried Empire Earth, and Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator. Not my thing.

KOTOR. Will download tomorrow, or tonight.

What about RTS games? The earlier C&C games are awesome especially Red Alert 2

Does it look like Tom Clancy's End War? Where you'll see a lot of soldiers with modern guns, line up like its the American Revolution and shoot at each other? I want to play a RTS game that plays pretty much like Full Spectrum Warrior if it was set in modern times. Emphasizing flanking, cover, etc.

I understand that Morrowind is hard to get into when your first Elder Scrolls experience was Oblivion.

My main tip:

Age of Empires II.

So awesome and atmospheric. But hopefully u wont be turned off by it's 2D grafix, because it's from 1999.

Chip's Challenge
Doom
Doom 2
Wolfenstein 3D
Duke Nukem 3D

talking about JRPGs, there's Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator, don't know where you're going to get it, but you can get it on GOG.com (GoodOldGames): http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/septerra_core_legacy_of_the_creator

and btw, there are good old games on GoodOldgames, so you might want to check some games there, such as MDK (1 & 2), Oddworld games.

there are loads of games to recommend, maybe you could be a bit more specific about what you're looking for :P

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

you can't go wrong with starcraft

Warcraft 3 + expansion

Has the best map editer I've seen in a game which makes for various different gaming experiences when playing online.

Also has nice campaigns and normal fights.

If there's one TBS/RTS hybrid only a bit similar to Total War it has to be: Rise of Nations.

It claims on the cover to be Gamespot PC GOTY 2003.

Try it out. 89 on Metacritic

Some other enjoyable RTS are:

Empire Earth - From 2001, 81 on Metacritic, but has brilliant campaigns and in one mission you're playing as Nazi Germany needing to conquer Paris, Warsaw and Oslo before Winter 1940

C&C Red Alert 1 - From 1996, 90 on Metacritic

C&C Red Alert 2 - From 2000, 84 on Metacritic

Age of Mythology - From 2002, 89 on Metacritic

Great City Building game

SimCity 4 - From 2003, 84 on Metacritic, well you won't find any game like it (though I haven't searched :p)

gog.com is a great site with some of the best old PC games to buy, like Fallout 1 & 2, Duke Nukem 3D, etc...
