This article implies that the new kits have more memory than the old ones, but I don't think that's true. They always have had 1 GB, as I recall. If you don't have that extra memory, you can't run a debug version of your game, basically.

1GB DK's went live around March this year.

That's the new kit, but its just a redesign to my knowledge.

The old ones were monstrously large.  I don't think they had any less memory.

The platform holder’s new development and test kit (pictured) is fitted with twice the memory of the original.

Lol.  Believe what you will, bud.  I suppose the quote does state "of the original", which makes it true, technically.

IIRC the pre-release kits had 512 MB, because the 360 was originally slated to have 256MB RAM.  I don't think its been that way for a long long while though.

XXX... Agreed with Mafkka.

What was interesting was, that apparently M$ wants to try and cut down 360-PS3 multiplatform games, if the X-engine info was even remotedly correct. If the engine is good and cheap, why not the devs use it, if developing for 360 first. Then again, the engine is from the company that developes Windows, which likely means that Epic keep raking in cash.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Awesome! if it is easy to use , and cheap it could easily cut down on the price of first party games. but i could see this hurting their relationship wiht epic

So if this engine is included with the XDK, does that mean it's free to any devs that want to use it?

Yeah, hopefully it will be easy to use and won't make them sweet bullets, or else they would go PC only

So the developers all lied?  The old kits only had 512mb of RAM total.  The new kits upped the RAM.  This is a fact regardless of what you believe.  I'm not sure why you think so strongly that it was always 1GB, but it wasn't and just got that upgrade recently.

I just don't recall MS screwing devs over with the 512 MB pre-release kit design for 3 years straight is all.  Seems like 1GB kits were out a good long while before the spiffy pics showed up on teh interwebs.

I could be wrong though.  I haven't touched a 360 kit since pre-release.

Someone could just ask Twesterm what kits are/were in use by devs.
