I've posted this same thing in a few other forums because I want to get as much feedback as possible, so please don't flame me for trolling or fanboyism.

I graduate from college in about six months and I really want to buy a PS3 with my own money once I start working. But the way things are going for it now (lack of exclusivity of MGS and FF, developers like Activision threatening to stop development, ridiculous price with no indication of a price drop in the near future, dead last in sales rates and totals, etc.) is there any reason to believe it has more than a year before it goes the way of the Dreamcast?

Again, I'm not trying to troll or be a fanboy. I just want to get as much info as possible from as many places as possible.

No it will never drop out of console race

NEVER EVER.....

sony still have huge 1st party support and are making great games
sales are not that far off x360 lately only a few ten grand off
AND
we still havent seen the price drop

To be honest, reading through the forum would give you your answer aswell and gives better insight as a thread like this will either:

A - be ignored as it's to grande
B - result in a flamewar.

But to answer your question. Yes it will still be around next year seeing as how a lot of developers are still supporting the system. But with activision threatening to leave the PS3 in the dust (though an empty thread) it could be a foreboding.

Do we know if there will even BE a price drop (aside from unsubstantiated rumors that are repeatedly proven false)?

Over the last three years, it's seemed as though Sony WANTS it to fail.

You will get trolled on for this, doesn't matter if you said right in your op that your not trying to be a troll...its just how pathetic some users here can be.

But OT: i would say yes, it would be worth it to get a PS3 because their first party offerings are very good, and i don't think any company will actually drop support for the PS3.

But remember, make sure you research all your options before settling down on one thing...

Activision will never leave the ps3

mainly because

- it loses money

- and IT loses money

they are calling the bluff and a poor one at that...

Assuming you're being honest here, chances are that you'll enjoy any system you buy. Just one thing, if you like multiplayer or if you're broke you should buy the console the most of your best friends have so you can play online with them and/or borrow games from them. Games are your biggest expense so if you can save that $$$ you'll have the cheapest console long term and the best bang for your buck.

yes of course there will be  price drop... possibly by holidays this year or early next year...

sony does def NOT want it fail....why would any company want their product to fail? Sony have been working hard on it by releasing many many good games etc....and besides it is the cheapest/best blu-ray player around

I doubt PS3 will go the way of the dreamcast - too established already.

It will continue to get a lot of 1st party exclusives, Uncharted, etc. while 360 will see a healthy number of exclusives too.

In the end I'd go with what suits you best and which exclusives you prefer - God of War, GT, Uncharted, etc. vs titles like Gears of War, Alan Wake, etc.
