Oh god yes
! But Metroid Other M looks kind of retro to me, which I love!!

I think it will excite a lot of people who grew up on Mario 1-3 and Super Mario Bros and grew away from video games, especially girls. I know quite a few girls (women now) who get giddy if they see someone bust out an old NES or SNES and pop-in Mario (or on the VC) and can't wait for their chance to play. A couple of them are friggin' hardcore about it and remember all the secrets and everything, it's hilarious watching them tear it up.

You get to play it on the big tv screen you know! Instead of a little portable which is quite a difference and many Wii owners like myself are dying for a 2d mario on Wii and behold are prayers were answered
.
And you´re right about how I feel about the graphics, graphics are not the most important factor in a game, not by far. The gameplay will always be the more important factor and here is where Nintendo and Mario always shines.
As a sidenote if you feel like you must justify a Wiiversion of a 2d Mariogame then consider this: it probably wouldn´t be possible to have the kind of 4 player gameplay on DS in the way that New Super Mario Bros Wii will be able to deliver so there... I just don´t understand why anyone would have to justify it in the first place. Mariogames rocks it´s as simple as that and we Wii owners will be one mariogame richer this holiday.

Multiplayer.
I favor handhelds 2 to 1. Hell I carry both my DS and PSP everywhere. When i'm home I play my PC 10 to 1 compared to my consoles.
I sorta get peoples nostalgia feeling I guess, bringing them back to the SNES/NES days, but other than that playing it on the big screen doesn't do anything for me compared to playing on a small screen. Maybe i'm odd that way.
Multiplayer could indeed be done on the DS, and it would be better!

I don't know many Wii fans that say that. I'm a Wii fan and definitely I won't tell you that. I want a game... the all package: graphics, art, music, sound, story, gameplay, so on... And I'm interested in all.

That's true. 2D mario multiplayer is a mix of Super Mario World and Super Smash Brothers. Which is epic.
Is it weird that I have little intrest in the DS iteration, but this is #1 on my christmas list?
I love it! But I hate the name. "New Super Mario Bros" well the DS game is also "New", it just doesn't fit anymore.

I agree, but I figure it's probably a marketing thing. The popularity of this will end up contributing to even better sales of the DS and the DS version, and vice-versa.
And it better appeals to non-gamers, who have to become gamers somehow.
