Forums - Sony - Firmware 2.80 Release Tomorrow

Sony is about the launch a new firmware update for the PS3. Available for download tomorrow, the new firmware 2.80 will be a basic update. No major new additions will be made available. There are a few fixes to increase performance such as faster Trophy synchronization and faster XMB loads. Sony will, of course, make an official post either tonight about Firmware 2.80 or early tomorrow to let us know it’s coming later in the day.
 
The update will have one new feature PS3 owners wants. Sadly, it won't be immediately useful to us.
 
As it was reported by ThatGamerAccess, Sony has updated their press site with a 2.80 debug file. It''s not set for download but Sony usually adds these a day before or the day of the real release.
 
It’s nothing to get excited about. It’s just a typical update.

Faster Trophies synchronization and XMB load is always a good thing. Maybe cross game voice chat will come with the Slim... :p

That qoute has me interested as well,  I doubt it is in game chat cause why would that not be instantly useful.   Either way, I guess anythig to streamline the XMB and its uses are great, I just want a big update.   I just hope they arent keeping in-game chat just for the sake of 3.0 cause that would piss me off.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

What does the 360 do with dual logins?

Well it was the only thing I could think of that fit his comment.   That would be something that the game developers would have to work into the game.
