Forums - Sony - Does a 249 PSP and a 299 PS3 go together?

I think the prices are too close for Sony.  How does a PSP look valuable compared to a full console for 50 dollars more.

349 is the new price with 399 Slim.-

Sony selling the PSP at $249 is bullshit. The old PSP is selling at $199. How are they going to beat the DSi, by selling a dumbed down version of the PSP at a higher price than it is now? The DSi is $169.99. Sony thinks too highly of their products. There is more reason to buy a PS2 than a PSP.

i agree with you, sony is adding sentimental value to the products, if they launch the ps3 slim at 400 and the normal at 300 am giving up on sony and moving to nintendo/microsoft for all my gaming needs

Not that different from the $180 DSi -> $250 Wii, really

The PSPgo is the premium version of the PSP, whereas the $299 PS3 would surely be the cheapest version available.
I don't see anything wrong with that, because there will be people giving a high value to the mobility that comes with the new form factor and not having to lug UMDs around.
Once the early adopters/gadget enthusiasts market will start to show diminished interest, the PSPgo will surely be re-positioned, and eventually the old PSPs will be retired and the go will fill all layers of the market.

Basing the price cut of the PS3 on the price of the PSPgo is quite a weird idea. The price cut of the PS3 will have to deal with the PS3 own problems on the market and its positioning. A $50 cut just wouldn't move it close enough to the sweet spot for the average console user, that was about $250 in the past.

The said "premium" version of the PSP has less functionality then the less expensive version, and has access to a smaller game library.  It is smaller and does have a smaller screen, so count that as a mix plus/minus.

The PSP Go has in-game XMB and a few other cool quirks.  It's not just a UMD-less PSP-3000.

source ? plus how is this really going to compete with a US$200 iphone and a US$170 PSP 3000?

I think it goes better than DS Lite for $129.99 and DSi for $169.99.

The DSi is only $40 more expensive, has 4 times the internal RAM and is twice as fast.  It comes with two cameras, and also internal storage.  Plus, it has a place to slide in more storage.

Exactly how is the PSP Go superior to the regular PSP?  Is there anything the PSP Go can do that the regular PSP can't do, with additional memory stick addeD?

Bluetooth.  Might let me play with DS3.  3000 can't do that or use any other possible bluetooth features.  Planner and clock are also only for PSPGO and it wouldn't be the first time Sony added features that older models couldn't do via firmware(Skype for PSP1000).

Iphones are not $200 the 2 year contract that you must sign adds a lot more dinero to that figure.

lol people are dumb. PSP is what, 169.99 to a 299.99 ps3.

quit your bitching about the GO, nobody is forcing you to buy it.

The Halo francise is the most overrated bland game to ever hit the console market. It provides a bad name to all FPS that even showed effort at creating an original entertaining plot.

I probably have more ps3 games than you :/

Again, the premium value for the intended target is in its mobility. UMD aside, what functionality is it missing?

As for the library, I understand that Sony promised full availabilty for download of the whole PSP gamut of games.
