Forums - Gaming - Why does everyone hate Tales of Symphonia and it's sequel?

I don't read too many people hating the first, but the sequel isn't terrible, it just isn't good either. Settles right into mediocrity.

It's not a sequel anyways, it's a spinoff. Or at least so I've heard.

It is a sequel. It just isn't a main title. Like FF X-2.

Anyway, most people love ToS so w/e :P

@outlaw

ToS isn't the only (J)RPG on the GC. Not counting Nintendo's RPGs like Pokemon, Paper Mario, FE, etc. on the GC, the GC also had both Baten Kaitos games, SoA Legends, Phntasy Star Ep 1 & 2 Online, Phantasy Star 3.

At the time of release, I believe it was the only high rated JRPG that was exclusive to the Cube.

Well Tales of Symphonia borrows heavily from Final Fantasy X. Other than that, people loved it for being the best original (and maybe even the only) JRPG on the Gamecube.

I don't hate it, but I don't think it's any better than an average RPG.

Dawn of the New World, while I haven't got too far, was terrible from what I played. I'll go back to it, but I struggled through 5 hours.

"Borrows heavily"?

That's just softly put, ahaha.

Well, I'm not making many friends in threads with Tales in it.

I'd thought I'd be nice.

I like Tales of Symphonia, but I will say that it's the worst Tales game that I've ever played (I actually liked Legendia!) It's still a good game though.

I'm not touching DotNW with a 10-foot pole.

Tales of Symphonia is a good game.

The "sequel," I'm not so sure. It's hard to put up with the characters - if you can't symphathize with the characters (or even worse, you hate them), the game won't work. I only played for maybe 3-5 hours, but it was painful enough for me to quit.

Just watch some of the footage on youtube and you'll see what I mean.

The first game was fucking awesome. I love it so much and everything about it too. The 2nd one i hav not played but i hate the direction they took with new voice actors and differnt art design. But i mean i have to play the 2nd one to see if i like it or not. But ya the first one was bomb. It kicks so much ass haha.

I loved ToS, and when I heard about ToS:Dawn of the New World I was hoping it would come out on the PS3. a sequal of ToS in HD would have been awesome, in any case it went by, now I'm waiting for ToV...hope it's good.

BTW ToS was the first tales of games I played, and since it was the 1st, then I have no previous game to compare it to, so to me it's was an awesome game.

ToS2 has in Marta one of the worst main characters in a jRPG, and the story is rather bland. Emil is shameful, too. Only 13 year old kids can feel connected to the main characters.

Whaat. Soriku's 14!

Ok, 14 year olds can get attached, too :D
