Forums - Microsoft - Omg, I think my Elite is starting to break already..

3 years is only 4 the 3 red lights.

I am just taking in all the benefits of the console war.

I thought the Elite version was suppossedly to be working just fine without any problems?? Is it "so" difficult to create a good reliable piece of hardware?

the first batches of the elite were no different to normal ones other than their black casing, so theres no reason for them to be any more reliable, more recent versions of all 360s are shipping with an additional heatsink on the GPU, which should help reduce the problems. I believe the smaller die cpu machines are in production now and will be in the stores once the current stocks are sold.

If you were to return your faulty elite to MS, im pretty sure they will return one with the additional heatsink.

Terrible news - I hope this is an isolated incident. I can't believe that the 360 is about to hit its THIRD Xmas and is still having stability issues on new units.

I really hope to pick up a 360 next year, and this probably the only thing that would stop me.

Uh....Just call MS and ask.

I've never heard of that issue. Your cache could just be bloated.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

As far as I've seen, that was just wishful thinking from some people. I never saw any conclusive evidence to prove that... I think some people just assumed it, even though no one proved that there was any difference in the hardware.

But allegedly, some of the newest Halo consoles already have the 65nm CPU in. Given the time they had to fix this, and given that the new units clearly have new components, they also had the opportunity to fix the heating problems, so any further equal problems are inexcusable!

The unreliability of the 360 could be the only thing that could save the PS3.

Doubtful, the Ps2 had reliability issues (although I don't believe quite as extensively as the 360) yet it still sold insanely well, and when they broke, it only resulted in additional Ps2 sales due to the stellar library, right now the 360 has the best current gen library, and the pattern will continue unless a competing console can equal or surpass it in # of games and quality.

Hopefully the 65nm chips are much better.

The PS2 is not the 360.  My initial comment about saving the PS3 was mostly a joke.  However, I don't think that comparing the initial launch woes of the PS2 to the two years running consistent problem with the 360 hardware is fair.  And what pattern are you suggesting....that the rebuys for the 360 will make it become the next PS2?

No, I doubt the 360 will be even close to 120+ million, but the 360 has an incredible game library which won't be equaled by the ps3 for at least another year. If a gamer wants to play any of the games they already own for the 360 they either need a new 360 ($350 premium) or a new ps3 ($499, or $599 if the 60gb is sold out by now)  plus $60 for each game to buy a ps3 copy.
